Games require uplay client to play. Always-on DRM client must always be connected to the internet to play (even for single-player) and games can only be re-downloaded up to 2 years.
^^^ In response to the above, the only two games on Uplay that require a constant internet connection are HAWX 2 and The Settlers 7. Every other Uplay game can be played in offline mode. And regarding the 2-year download window, this no longer applies with Uplay 2.0. Similar to Steam and Origin, games are attached to an account when purchased through the client and can be downloaded whenever you like and as often as you like. The Uplay client is needed to play these games and no, these games aren't Steam activated. Even if they were, you still are required to use the Uplay client on Ubisoft games.
