A cast-iron skillet has been in development since 1300 BCE - 300. I mean it has been in development from the year three hundred. Casting iron is now a very predictable manufacturing process. It involves little guesswork and involves huge machines using electronics to ensure the correct metallic mix to create the cast iron. If the USA can fudge up manufacture of a 1,700+ year product then it deserves in no way being a superpower.
The whole point of a cast-iron skillet is it is low tech.

Why do you hope that they hit their husbands over the head with a skillet? Is their food deadly? Regardless, please do not give them a skillet.

In 4 one.
Several points that China has progressed to exceed quality and standards of even the USA...
1.) The China Olympics opening ceremony ate every other Country's up for breakfast...they had the most spectacular, ostentatious and well funded performances.
2.) Apple products are made in China, those are crappy?
3.) Iron Ore is 15x cheaper than lead, why the hell would they add lead to an iron product??
4.) Your clothes, underwear, the keyboard and most computer parts you're typing on are made in china.
Every aspect of the economy in China including GDP has exceeded the USA. (not that these economic measures are even that accurate...)
Most Chinese are not in debt, unlike the majority of Americans.

Do a little research and you'll see that all is not rosy in China.
Remember the pet food from China that was making our pets sick and killing some?
How about the melamine they were putting in baby formula that sickened thousands of babies and killed some as well. Think about their priorities because the Chinese government knew there was a problem with milk products for over a year but they did nothing. They didn't want to taint their image prior to the Olympics but it's alright to have tainted food products?. Melamine was added to milk to up the protein levels after they watered down the milk to make more money. It was also found in yogurt and crackers as well as many other food products.
Have you read about the toxic Chinese dry wall that was sold in the US? Imagine putting your nest egg into a new house after you retire only to lose it all because of toxins. People got sick from the off gassing of the dry wall and it corroded metal, pipes and wiring as well. Insurance companies refused to cover uninhabitable properties and they couldn't be sold so the developers went bankrupt. You can't live in it, you can't insure it, you can't sell it & you can't get your money back because the builder went bankrupt so you lose it all. Really sucked to be all those people.
If you have young kids I hope you don't buy them jewelry because many of the products from China have lead and cadmium in them which are extremely toxic, especially for children.
Now, if you have any children in your household or extended family I hope you don't buy them any toys that are painted. Many of the major name brand toys made in China have had lead in the paint: Thomas the train, building blocks, Dora & Sesame Street toys to name a few.
Don't forget the Chinese-made pharmaceuticals and toothpaste that are harmful.
In addition to dangerous additives added to their products, China excels in making counterfeit products which hurts us all.
They do have great athletes though but at what cost? I saw horrific photos of 3 or 4 year old crying children being forced to stretch their bodies so they will be more limber. One very sad photo showed a small child crying with her legs stretched in front of her while an adult stepped on her knees bending them backwards. The parents of all these children have given them to the state to mold into prize winners. So very sad.
Now, let's talk about freedom. The Chinese people are not free to live as they like. I'm sure you've seen much on this subject so it's not necessary to detail specifics.
All you have to do is to google some of what I've written and you might love America a little more.
