If all things are working properly, expect both brands to lose 50% brightness around 5-7 years with daily use. That's really not bad, considering most don't keep sets that long, while others get the upgrade bug, and others the SD effect.
But overall, I love this TV. It has a better picture than my 47" LG LED IPS display. My 2010 model is just as slim as any LED out there. I would think this model would be as well.
If you don't care for apps, there is one big reason to get an LG. They do not advertise this, but mine and most newer LG tv's will play divx and mkv files. So many standard video files will play in the USB port of an LG tv. What does this mean? Well, if you know movie file formats you can put these type of videos on a flash drive and play them through the TV without a computer or HTPC.
I have yet to see any other brand of TV that does this. My Panasonic Viera will play mkv files, but not divx. Go figure.

Samsung being the other Korean company(korean's see korean's do) does actually play divx's as well. Also Xvid. The thing about Xvid is that it does not play the files at first. But if you open the file again it plays. So go figure.
In addition it dose play Mkv. trust us on this. Get a TV that can do this if you download lots of stuff of the internet like torrents and such.
