For now it is mostly pics of the Fam and most of those are indoors. I do like the non flash pics, but many times you just need the flash. Would this be overboard with the built in flash the 60D has?
Just got an email from Adorama that it shipped already. I do hope it's new. But seeing its a pretty reputable store and they didn't say anything about it being refurbished, it should be new.
TIA

I sprung for the 565EX (close equivalent to the 580EX II) but took a hard look at the lower series that are more in line with the 430EX:

There are lots of other options but some are manual only and others are older iterations. I got it this weekend and have played with it a little but will have to do some major research to figure out how to use it "right"... For now I'm just letting it do its' think automatically with ETTL.

I recently got into the world of DSLR and got a T3i.
will this work on it?
also if I later get better and upgrade to the Mark III will it still work with that?

Look up yongnuo 560 on amazon. half the cost, 10 times the performance.
although 270ex ii is less powerful, i think it's still a great flash for beginners who want to travel light. It has HSS and can be used off camera remotely. quality is much better and you also don't have to mail it back to china if there are problems...
