They are notorious for running billing and credit card scams.
Just do a simple Google Search "1and1.com Ripoff" and you'll see what I mean.

After that year or initial period is up, the prices raise considerably and they send it to collections if you try to cancel. They try to hold your domain hostage as well.
You don't hear the same kind of horror stories with reputable companies like HostGator or DreamHost, so I'd wait for something from them.
