Running 2 i5 2500k @ 4.8ghz for $150 and no plans on upgrading from that anytime soon. I had a i7 920 and a i5 750 both clocked at 4ghz running side by side. For my use I could see zero difference between the two.

i7 for many people won't be fully utilized.

I grabbed the i5 3570 and AsRock z77 Extreme4 on friday from Microcenter for $265 total. $100 less than newegg, so was pretty kickass.
