For those not in the know, costco B&M has an empty "Pre-Purged" cylinder with overfill protection and Full/Empty Guage for 27.99. Not sure what brand it is.
For refills, check U-Haul's website for your local shop and check prices right on the website (they vary greatly, even locally between stores): http://www.uhaul.com/Propane/

Of course right now I need to buy a 3rd tank since I got this propane "oven" thing I haven't yet used...
I did my exchanges at Walmart for about $18, and about 20 minutes of wondering when someone would unlock the cage.
Last time, I took it to Tractor Supply and got it filled, with the full 20 lbs, for $7.
So...no more Walmart for me unless something gets askew with my Blue Rhino tank.

Improperly installed grills start house fires every day
As for the guy storing it indoors, you're suppose to store it outdoors. Check the news, everyone once in a while you do hear about a house exploding because someone's propane tank developed a leak and it's a heavier gas so it'll sink and accumulate in the home til it goes boom.
As for the fill, even when I take it to BJs, I think I only get about 18 pounds as I think they're supposed to leave 10% free as a safety factor as propane will expand/contract 1% for every 6 degrees F and they use 60 as a baseline. So I guess if it hits 120 degrees, that a 10% expansion in volume.
As for an old tank, found a couple in my yard a few years ago. They were really old, had the old valve on it. Did a tank swap and the lady cashier didn't notice the valve difference or didn't care and didn't get charged extra.
I brought in my empty tank and the nearly-empty one from my grill.
The empty one took 4.2 gals and the other took 3.2 before it automatically stopped filling.
Two full tanks for $25 with tax.
That is nearly what one single exchange at ACE hardware/Menard's/WalMart would have cost.
I never knew it was so easy. Thanks SD!
