My favorite game from last year. If you were curious about getting this, just do it. This will require some time to be put into it.

This price is awesome but at the cost of how many controllers. All I hear is how hard and unforgiving this game is. Oh so tempted....

Demon's Souls was way too hard for me. I like challenging games, but not frustrating in difficulty. I only get 30 minutes to 60 minutes of play time each day due to work and family. I played Demon's Souls for over 1 hour several times with no checkpoint in sight. In this day, they should have more frequent checkpoints for individuals like me. Died numerous times in the game. After a couple of tries, I got frustrated and resold it. I presume that Dark Souls has the same issue with the checkpoint system and the difficulty?

That is the spirit of Demon's Souls. You keep on dying and eventually it becomes one part of your instinct how each stage looks like. It is like driving to work everyday and eventually you know the shortcuts and where it may get jammed. This is where the game becomes rewarding. You can see yourself getting better and better and crushing those that destroyed you before. In fact, it took me like 10 hours to beat the first boss, but when I started a new character, 20 minutes was more than enough for me to finish 1-1.

To answer your question, they added checkpoints in Dark Souls. HOWEVER, if you revive at a checkpoint, all enemies between the checkpoint and where you die all come back to life as well.

Your story is a family one, I bought Demon's Souls, screamed at the television every couple of weeks after playing it for an hour. That went on for like 6 months. One day it finally clicked with me, I started using the lock on and shield properly, and suddenly I was 5 hours into the game.

It really is a weird, f'd up game, and Dark Souls is the same. Once you "get it" tho, it's super satisfying. Dark Souls is one of the best games I've played in years, but yeah, it has to click on in your head before you can move forward.

Excellent game, definitely worth the purchase. DLC at the end of this month will make it that much sweeter.

Demon's Souls and Dark Souls aren't difficult. IMHO, people are way too attuned to button mashing in recent games and the skill of the average "gamer" reflects this. The Souls series will punish you for not being observant and patient. You need to learn when to shield, when to parry, when to dodge and when to attack. That's about it. People now try to make their own restrictions/challenge runs to pump up the difficulty, check out the epicnamebro challenges to see what I'm talking about.

the problem with this game is that people expect to be just like any other video game where the world is your main character's oyster.

In this game, you're just another guy in the world trying to survive. If you played accordingly you'd be fine.

Is there a secret to getting Newegg to pricematch? Just bought this game 4 days ago at $20 bucks...so far, they're unwilling to pricematch.

I wouldn't consider myself a gamer either and I get an hour or two every day after work. Like most people said here, you get the hang of it once you die a couple of times. You learn from the death instead of it being a complete waste. The first few hours was quite frustrating. I played the first level (1-1) for about 2-3 hours but it became quite easy after that. You need to use block a lot and learn when to use the regular attack or the strong attack. Keep an eye on the stamina as well. Let it build up before you attack. You can't rush through the levels. You have to plan them in your head. Step back a little and learn the moves of the enemy and attack. It's a difficult game but it's not impossible.

This game is amazing, but it is unlike pretty much every Western action game. The pacing is slow. Combat is extremely punishing. And grinding is required. That being said, it's worth it. Dovahkiin would get owned by trash mobs like spear wielding skeletons in this game. If you don't like challenges and hate being reminded of failures, you should steer far and wide of this game and try something more up your alley, like Hello Kitty Online.

bought this last year at release price...never had time to play it let alone open it so returned. still dont have time to play it but at this price, can't say no!
