DieHard Platinum 6V/12V Battery Charger and Maintainer $24 + Free In-Store Pickup (expired)

I bought two of these, back in August, on the last slickdeal when it was frontpage at $1.00 less and these chargers/ maintainers are fantastic. When you hook them up they will do a diagnostic and then tell you how charged your battery is. As it is charging it will tell you what percentage of charge that the battery is, when charge is complete it automatically goes into the maintain mode. I have a trickle charger and several full size chargers, but I really like this charger better than the rest.

Does that mean this is not suitable for maintaining a regular car battery?

It should be fine to maintain one, but 3a would take a LOOOOONG time to charge one, several days probably.

I have a group 48 sized battery and I was able to charge from 74% back up to 99% in an afternoon's worth of charging with this exact charger I picked up the last time it was front page.

Maintaining is different than charging.

And honestly 3A is what you would ultimately want to charge a dead battery at....its like BBQ, low and slow gives the best results. Its also a lot better for the battery than fast charging.

I have an ancient Sears battery charger with 2/10A charge and 50A start settings. If Im not trying to jump start something outright, I only use 2A and let it charge for a while. If the battery still doesnt respond after a couple days under 2A charge, its pretty much a sure thing that its dead.

Does it do diagnostics on itself or on the battery? In other words, does it give any indication on what it perceives the condition of the battery to be?

Nope. This only tells you your voltage, charging rate. Battery testers, such as load test/charging system test cost more than $24

Anybody use this on a car battery? Does it work?

FYI, if any of you are looking for something that can jump start a dead battery, this Sears model comes up every few months for $30, and is always a front-pager at that price:
