I read that review of Sony a99, good article, finally understand what's that SLT. I didn't get it at all before, thinking there's no reason for a EVF if there's no mirror, now I get it is for autofocus.

If he's using those WR lenses when diving without an enclosure, then he's ending up with a bunch of destroyed lenses. They are weather resistant, not water proof. If he's using a housing, then it doesn't matter if the lenses are WR. That $49 camera is a P&S, how would those lenses work with it?

So with me not knowing crap about cameras this can't take pictures out of the box right? I'll have to buy some sort of lens?

Only if you buy the body. I wouldn't do that. Buy a kit with a lens or lenses. That's a deal. Those lenses are worth way more than $100.

This camera is a weird one, it's mirrorless but uses Pentax's standard lenses, so it's a bit on big size. But very attractive to those with Pentax DSLR/SLR, because they already have some lenses. All other three players, canon, nikon, sony are using small lenses for their mirrorless lines, which means a whole new set of lenses, but they can use a small size body.

I have a K7 and K10d which are WR and WR lenses. However, I wouldn't go diving with these.

I also have a Panasonic G3, mirrorless with EVF. I do like having a viewfinder so it will take some getting used to with the K-01. However, I am looking forward to getting this camera for the availability of high ISO and the image quality. I also don't have to go out and buy any additional lenses for it since I own Pentax gear. I just couldn't stop myself from purchasing the K-01 at this price.

You can buy the 40mm lens kit or the dual lens kit with 18-55 and 50-200 lenses. However, if you just want a point and shoot, even though this is a good deal, you may do better looking at point and shoot cameras priced lower than the K-01 kits.

Pentax is horrible in creating WR as weather resistant, when WR had been defined as Water Resistant. Like the Casio g-shock watch I have, can use when submerge. We are talking about amateur, more likely a P&S water resistant camera will get enough amazing video/picture for the little dive we have.

I checked the link for a very in detail review of the sony slt line, the top one a99. Although promising, it seems to me that the fixed mirror in it is rather a waste, and won't stay there long, or compete with a real mirror for those real photographers. At the same time, made me doubt about this camera and would like to get the k5 when it is cheap enough. I have a k10d, and only two lenses, so it's quite open for me to totally throw all the line out, but if the k5 is cheap enough, it sure will be way cheaper than go for the canon 6d route.

WR has been used to describe both "water resistant" and "weather resistant" cameras. The K7 and K10d are "weather resistant" . They are not waterproof which I am well aware of. "Weather resistant" = should be OK in inclement type weather. The Pentax Optio is supposed to be waterproof and advertised in this way.

If you have the Pentax lenses you may just want to build on them rather than going to a completely new system. However, if you only have 2 then you are not all that invested and, as you noted, you can just "throw all the line out." Because the K5 II and IIs are now out the price of the K5 should continue to drop. Canon 6d vs Pentax K5: now there's a big price difference - $2000 for body only vs @$850 body only.

Back to the K-01: anyone who ordered from Adorama and received the backordered notice get a shipping email yet? I know they estimated 10-14 days but just curious.

Folks. I received my camera last night. As suspected, it was at Firmware 1.00. MAKE SURE YOU UPDATE TO version 1.01. I could hardly get a focus at all in low light with 1.00.

Anyways, I played with it all day today taking pics/video of my little guy. It's fantastic. I'm coming from a K10D. If I'm being honest, focus speed is only slightly faster than my K10D; but I have more confidence in the K-01 accuracy. i'm getting usable shots at iso 6400, on my K10D the highest I would go was 800. I haven't had time to tweak noise reduction or anything like that, but I'm loving it so far. i have a feeling i won't be lugging my huge flash out as often. FYI....focus peaking is NOT available during the actual video recording. that was kind of a bummer. I'd rather have focus peaking during recording than auto focus. It will also take me a while to get used to menu selections rather than shortcuts w/ buttons. FYI...video w/ SR off seemed to work better.

Received mines today and looks like they sent me a demo. It was all scratched up on the screen and on the aluminum parts. Anyone deal with Adorama customer service before?. I know they are out of stock,so I hope I can get some credit back and maybe keep the camera. Otherwise, I will send back for a full refund ifthey allow it.

hey it looks like this is back to $420... is it good? considering the sony nex 5 is 500
