D5200 looks to be priced higher than the d5100 ever was. I think nikon is repositioning the d5200 half way between what the d5100 and d7000 was. They will probably do the same with the d7000/d300s replacement and slim the dx linup by 1 tier officially.

Might not see new d5100s go much lower as a result. It leaves quite a gap in price from the 3200 to the 5200.

Sounds tempting, but I want a real professional camera like the D7000 or higher model. The fold out screen makes the D5100 look like a toy.

The D7000 is not a "real professional" camera. You want one a "professionals" would actually use? Get a D800.

I'm actually considering the D5100 particularly for that "fold-out" articulating screen. If you've ever owned a camera with one, you'd know they can be particularly handy. Works great for self-portrait, overhead, macro and very low-to-the-ground shots. Even outdoor shots where the sun is hitting the screen directly; you can angle the screen away from the sun and regain your image. Or try getting a clear shot of P-Diddy while a crowd of autograph seeking fans are swarming around him.

Actually I'm debating between this and the Sony NEX-5N. Will wait it out for a bit longer, but leaning heavily towards the Sony for it's smaller size. Nice deal OP, Repped. Might help to put price in title.

The flip out screen is actually useful for me. I got the camera a long time ago, and the flip out screen is at times a god send. I mostly use this camera for documenting my projects (shameless website plug! hak8or.com) and I despise the on camera flash. So instead I use a tripod, which I put on the desk, which makes the camera at about the same height as my chin when I stand. So, there is no way in hell I would be able to use the viewfinder, and instead use the flip out screen.

The LCD is really good, high res, colors seem to be good. One bad thing about this camera is the video. The autofocus is UTTER GARBAGE when recording. My god, you hear a constant "whrr whr whr whrrrr" of it trying to catch focus. And often, even though it is close to focusing, it focuses in the opposite direction causing it to completely loose focus and then grab proper focus, which takes a second or so. The build quality in general of the kit lens and camera body seems alright, nothing to write home about. The lens does have a bit of "looseness" when you manually adjust it, meaning you can rotate the focus ring a little without it actually changing focus, hence the build quality comment.

In short, for video don't get this guy, unless you can manually focus quickly and correctly. Oh, I never had it overheat on me, ever. It did get warm after recording some video, but nothing to make me worry.

And a last comment. Saved this for last because it is most likely due to me being new to DSLR's. I wish there was a way to make "profiles". Like, have aperture set to lowest the lens can go, shutter at 1 second, and ISO at 500, and then a 2nd profile with aperture also set to lowest, but shutter at 1/30s and ISO at something like 2,000. So I can quickly shift between profiles instead of manually having to put the things in every time I change from shooting on a tripod to shooting with my hands.

Understood. When the 5200 is released, there will be a 5300 and so on unless Nikon goes under. As new products are announced and released, prices will drop; such is the world of consumer electronics.

Nevertheless, this is a deal site and this is about the price... the price now. $424 is a great price for this camera. The votes will reflect this price, not that it will eventually be replaced and that the price will drop, as will that of every other piece of consumer electronics.

Right now it's $429, it may have been $424 when it was first posted. Of course the price on Adorama's website would always be the correct one....

The 90 day warranty is the standard Nikon refurb warranty, the one year warranty from Cameta is their own in house warranty so as long as they don't go out of business in the next year, it should be good.

Don't forget 2% cashback from that other site which won't be named.

If you click the link it still shows 424$ and in cart also it shows 424$. But if u visit adorama site and search for it, it shows 429$.
