How are the ipod touch's refurbs usually? I'm considering purchasing one as a gift for my girlfriend and trying to decide if a refurb is the way to go. Will it be scratched in the back or will there be a like-new back plate and a new battery?

I have not bought a refurbish iPod touch, but I have bought a refurbished iPad and have compared them with my friend's brand new iPads and cannot tell the difference. That is probably because Apple replaces the outer shell so from the outside they look brand new. They do the same with the iPod touches so there should be no sign of scratches and look brand new. New battery too.

Is the 8gb even worth it? Hmmm...brings the price down to more reasonable for a 7yo, but how quickly will he fill it up with pictures, etc? Not a big movie guy...but is getting into music.

Maybe the 8gb is a good idea, because he's young and if something happens to it, not as difficult to replace.

Argh!!!...then there is the Nexus 7 tablet. I just don't see as many kid friendly apps on google play vs. itunes.

So my 10 y.o. daughter has been asking for one of these since last year. What exactly can she do with it outher then listen to music and are the downloads/apps and such pricey?

same here -- i just bought 2 ipod touches for my 3 year old and 5 year old, since they are always more interested in those than their Leappads. The leappads are great, but the apps are absurdly expensive. For the same price, i would definitely lean towards the ipod touch.

Awesome .. in for the 32GB one for my 8 year old for Xmas .. mulling over one for my 6 year old.

Got a 32gb... just couldn't quite justify the extra $50 for 64gb, although I might regret it.... Thanks OP! I've been holding out for a good deal on an iPod.

i wish i had these problems when i was 10... she can load pics/movies/shows onto it to watch... and of course play games with apps... a lot of them are free like angry birds and temple run

amazon sells the new 32gb one for 195. diff of 15, i rather get a new one than old one
