Okay, stupid question alert (sorry): I'm buying my 10 year old a tablet (nexus 7) but he's been asking for one of these ipod touch 4th gen's for a long time. Is it ridiculous to buy both? I mean, if he gets the tablet, will he even use the ipod?

Is the 8gb even worth it? Hmmm...brings the price down to more reasonable for a 7yo, but how quickly will he fill it up with pictures, etc? Not a big movie guy...but is getting into music.

Maybe the 8gb is a good idea, because he's young and if something happens to it, not as difficult to replace.

Argh!!!...then there is the Nexus 7 tablet. I just don't see as many kid friendly apps on google play vs. itunes.

Serious question, but what do you do next year? I know some preteens that have both tablet and iPod touch, so other than upgrade to latest and greatest models, what else do you get them that even compares? Sure, they can get a nice new car when they turn 16, but what do you do in the intervening years?

IMHO a tablet will be easier to use mainly due to screen size but much less portable.

Games, movies, reading will all be easier on a tablet due to size.

Tablet will cost you more than a touch too.

That being said we like our tablet and our touch both.

I know I will probably get flamed for this but my three year old has both. We have the touch on the go with us to keep him entertained when he gets restless (sometimes we want to finish our meal in peace), and we have an ipad for him at home. The ipad is his favorite when given a choice. So I would say it depends on where you plan on using it and do you want to lug an ipad around.

So 32 gb is the better choice for an older child then 8 gb?
