After you buy this you will likely need some lenses. I recommend reading reviews at http://www.photozone.de/ for Canon EOS full format lenses. If you want a full set of primes (14, 28, 35, 50, 85, 100, 135) be prepared to spend ~$400 for each decent lens, for about $3000+. That's double what the camera costs. You could buy one Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 USM L IS II and one Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 USM L II but that would cost $4800 for the same quality as a set of mid-grade primes. (You'll also want to spend $300 for a decent tripod, $30 for a circular polarizing filter, $300 for a flash, $20 for a wireless shutter, $75 for a 32gb 600x compact flash card, $300 for an IPS monitor, $70 for a color calibration device...)

The only downside is the crappy AF system, but you're using the center point 90% of the time anyways.

I love my Canon lens so I will not be switching to Nikon anytime soon, but if I had to choose as of right now which body is ahead of the game I would say Nikon is giving more for the money. Lets hope they do so with their lens too. I hope canon learns their lesson from this year as they have been defeated to the market by Nikon, as they are playing catch up, and bring something new to the table for their body down the road.
