ALERT: The protector covers the proximity sensor causing the phone to work eratically during calls. The screen goes blank and you can do nothing including ending the call. Talked to Xtreme Gaurd and they are sending me an new one that does not cover it but I will have to wait 5-11 days.

be aware..the reviews on the sgp on amazon are horrible so far..
The guy from Diz posted on xda that neither case exists yet, but should be available in December. The official bumper has been getting good reviews, but it's expensive for what it is, doesn't offer TPU, and is, of course, backordered.

If they have an otterbox commuter case or something along those lines, I'd be extremely happy.
Regarding the gorilla glass issue. Yes, it has been reported that the Nexus 4 uses GG2 on the front and back sides, and yes, GG2 is supposed to be scratch resistant. However, the issue is that people have been getting scratches very easily on their Nexus 4s (ESPECIALLY on the back glass), regardless of how careful they've been. The relatively high number of reports is of concern as on paper, it really shouldn't be happening this easily, let alone this early. This has been leading to speculation that that maybe the back glass may of be lower quality than the front, or that the quality of this batch of GG in general is poor.
My suggestion? Get a semi-decent screen protector for the time being until the situation can be addressed by Google or something. For $1 for the front (or $2 for front and back), these screen protectors are literally the cheapest thing you can get right now. Many the other big name brands like Spigen, XO, or Skinomi aren't 100% shipping yet, so this is probably your best bet to at least hold you over if you want to spring for something fancier (though I can't comment on if they're any better since I've never used Xtreme Guard).

Still love it, I just have a hard time believing it's GG2 though. My original HTC phones with regular Gorilla Glass almost never scratched..

The temporary protector has pictures printed on it showing the power button and volume buttons. Very low quality, and lots of bubbles underneath. It's purpose is just to keep the phone in mint condition out of the box - it's designed to be removed before you even ever turn on the phone.
