Guess you haven't tried the Mountek one then? Mounting from the CD player is infinitely better than vent (coming loose/blocking air) or suction cup (coming loose, blocking view, etc) mounts.

This is for people who aren't happy with those other 2 methods. Your suggestion isn't a comparable product.

I'd say it comes down to personal preference in terms of what style of mount you ultimately choose. The vent mounts don't work for me because my vents are vertical and the slats are not parallel. Suction cup mounts don't work because they make me lean forward too much to get at the screen (I'm short and have short arms). The Mountek works best for me just as something else might work best for you. Let's agree to disagree.

Just based on the Amazon reviews this seems like a great item.. 647 reviews and only 6 1-star, 15 2-star... seems like a pretty big niche.

This thing is super solid. Every once in a while, I'll have to re-tighten the grips (for the phone) but past that, it's one of the best ways to prop your smartphone.

It really depends on the layout of your car. I was debating between this & the iOttie one touch mount as well, but went ahead and bought the iOttie for $10.

With my car at least, I have a perfect spot on the dash to mount the iOttie. It holds the phone high enough so I can easily see it without taking my eyes off the road, but doesn't block the view of the windshield. One additional benefit is that you can open & close the clamp holding the phone with 1 hand.

With this CD mount it would've blocked most of the stereo unit (it's touch screen), making it unusable.

how wide can this go? can this hold a 10" tablet? maybe in portrait?

Yup. Well, really depends. Mine works because the CD actually goes in a further than just the hole where the mount sits.

Usually if you're using this mount, you wouldn't need your CD Player anyways.
