For 100$, we bought a 9 inch screen one, that had live DMB TV, and played pretty much every video codec available. As well, had the location of every speed camera in the country and warned you to slow down when necessary, could tell you live lane by lane traffic information, it would also sync with the metro timings (to tell you which station should should drive too in order to catch the next train, or if there were ever delays) and a whole bunch more.

1) DMB TV and video codecs: This is most likely an active decision made by GPS companies to omit visual entertainment on the GPS unit, given the litigious nature of the US. If anyone ever got into an accident, someone will sue the GPS company for providing TV on their unit.
2) Speed camera locations: Speeding cameras aren't used nearly as often in the US as in Asia. As a matter of fact, quite a few cities have started rolling back camera use due to it being challenged in courts, since those cameras don't encourage safe driving, only revenue for the government. There were also privacy concerns.
3) Traffic info: already available, but requires bigger coverage. Obviously, if you don't live in a bigger city, you probably don't have the infrastructure. http://www.laptopmag.com/advice/e...works.aspx
4) Metro times & schedules: Do you actually live in the US? In case you didn't notice, unless you live in a few of the bigger cities, not many people take public transportation. This is an infrastructure problem.
The way I see it, the 9" screen is about the only viable advantage the generic Korean brand has. Not to say I disagree about the lack of features, just that those features either cannot be implemented due to liability or infrastructure limits.
