Question:
Can any of you hear some high pitched noise when the computer is off? I just got my replacement. This new one doesn't have the fan problem, but it has some high pitched noise even when the computer is off. The noise is the same level when the computer is on and off. However, I can't hear the noise when the computer is on because of other fan noise. The noise isn't loud, and I have to get my head within 10-20" near the psu to be able to hear it. My old OCZ PSU is completely silent though; there's no noise even I put my ear on the psu. Is this normal? I did some googling, and I've read that high efficiency PSU are prone to have high pitched noise/buzz.

Don't know why it came in it but the box is huge about the size of 4 of the boxes the ps itself is in. Maybe the noise you hear is the coil whine that some has complained about. I have a 2 year old x750 but haven't paid any attention is it makes a noise.
The noise isn't loud, I have to get 10-20" near the psu to hear it, but it still bothers me a little because my old OCZ is silent.

I know the kind of high pitched humming you mean from past experience with other electronics, and I cannot STAND it.
I hope some new owners can give us their input about this.

I did some googling, and it seems that this high pitched noise issues is really common with Seasonic PSU. The noise level of each PSU is different. My first X750 buzzed a little less than my new X750 replacement, but its fan was defective though

I am sending mine back to Newegg for a full refund. The high pitch noise is driving me crazy lol. I have 2 X-650's that are dead silent even at full load and I am quite surprised that the X-750 version is flawed.
You can tell if it is dead by whether or not your components are getting power. Try to turn on your computer. If it works, you're good.
Even if the buzzing is slight, I wouldn't be able to tolerate it. I have really sensitive ears, and a high pitched noise of any volume would drive me crazy. Besides, this PSU is supposed to be silent. For what it costs, I expect it to live up to the claim.

A Corsair Tech rep said that High efficiency are prone to have high pitched noise/buzz, if it's not noticeable, it's okay
Like I said before, I can't hear it when my computer is on, but I can hear it when the computer is OFF about 10-20" away from the psu, I have to pay attention to be able to hear to it though. I guess the chance that I'll get another buzzing PSU is high, so I may have to settle with this one
