I have a 32GB touchpad and it's only about a third full. Guess what, you can use USB OTG if you really needed to carry around a lot of media. MicroSD slot would be nice though...
And who uses rear facing cameras on a tablet? Awkward. Your smartphone has a better and more convenient camera.
It's pretty simple...you want a tablet right now? Get a Nexus 10, Nexus 7, or iPad...just not iPad mini. Those are the best available now. Asus Tranformer is pretty good though, but you'll be 2 months behind on android OS updates.
I can also confirm there are zero search returns when googling other tablets and drops. So this drop-gate problem is solely on the Nexus 7.
WHEN WILL YOU STOP IGNORING THIS GOOGLE/ASUS
exactly. first people complained that there was no camera whether it was the iPad or Kindle Fire etc.
then they complained that there is only a forward facing camera.
then they will complain the camera quality isn't good enough.
it just never ends. i'm glad you and i, and maybe a select other few understand that tablets aren't supposed to be used in place of digital cameras. in almost every scenario, the consumer will have their phone with them which would be better for taking pictures anyways. i watch the iPad Mini commercial where the dude is taking a scenic picture of his girlfriend with his iPad Mini. why did he take his iPad Mini on a hike and not his iPhone? why didn't he just bring his iPhone + higher quality digital camera? why were there so many idiots holding their iPads up taking pictures and video at Times Square during New Years Eve???
I have a case for it that turns on the Nexus when I open it too, just like my Ipad does.. Dropped it out of my Jeep many times and did not miss a beat..
I have 8 tablets and the Nexus7 is the only one I carry around with me... (Ipad3 64gb Verizon, Motorola Xoom2 8.2" Verizon), Asus Prime with keyboard, Kindle Fire, HP Touch pad, Sprint Evo View, HTC Flyer, Nabi 2, and a new Lenovo Twist)
Some things are just wrong
Nook HD has 7" screen 1440 x 900 pixel resolution, 243 PPI (pixels per inch), weights 11.1 oz (315 g) and has microSD card slot (not on Nexus.)
Nook HD+ is 9" screen and microSD slot for $269.
Nook HD isn't remotely comparable to the Nexus 7 unless its hacked. There's no apps. And the screen isn't a lot better than the Nexus 7.
And hacked there are problems. Once they're fixed it'll be ok but still won't be better deal than a Nexus 7, unless its a lot cheaper. A good deal would be $150.
The Amazon Kindle Fire HD is useful even if not hacked. And it does have a considerably better screen and way better speakers than the Nexus 7. And its a very durable design with real Gorilla glass. And built-in hdmi out.
The Nexus 7 is more fragile, but its a great out of the box Android experience.
I knew I should have waited, F*CK!!
Picked one of these up.. $10 for 16gb more! Thanks OP!!
I..do..not..need..any..more..tablets..

So I take it you bought one? LOL
I would jump on this if I didn't already have three TP, two China Tabs, and an Acronia...

With this, avoided tax. Going to get a Sqauretrade warranty as well for accidental drop as the screen is fragile.
Galaxy has icecream (upgradable), smaller memory but SD slot, and IR transmitter.

Another reason why external cameras are becoming more important are apps that use the camera to do things, like measure things, translate things, identify things.
I'd pay $10-20 extra for a Nexus 7 with an external camera, if it was an option.
