Those Sony's are NOT noise cancelling. They are noise isolating, 2 different things.

These seem like cheap (quality-wise) headphones slapped on with the JBL logo and marked up with a high MSRP. Looking at the tech specs, I'm not impressed. Frequency response is only 20Hz-20kHz. Even low-end JVC headphones (HA-RX300) have a frequency response of 12Hz-22kHz, and the JVC headphones were on sale at amazon for $7.50 recently and can be purchased regularly around $15. I don't think the JBL headphones come with a 6.3mm plug adapter either.

Hope someone can convince me otherwise that these are a good deal because I am looking for some decent, inexpensive headphones in the $20-$30 range.

Marketing specs mean very little. While they can be indicators of poor quality, often-times it does not at all indicate the sound quality or level of R&D that goes into a pair of headphones. With that said, it's quite possible they're not very good and are just living off of the JBL name. There are a lot of underperforming headphones on the market.

Because they don't already have a more expensive pair of headphones
Because they can't tell the difference
Because they are buying stuff for other people as gifts and have a budget
Because slickdealers upvote deals that are okay even if they don't make the purchase
Because cheap headphones have their uses, are less painful to replace, can be just for fashion.

That said, I think my px-100s have been worth every penny i paid ($42) for them, for versatily, portability and durability, even though I own RE-0s and have tried other more expensive headphones (that I couldn't imagine owning any time soon).
