Great price. I bought mine for 400 or more around 1.5 years ago. This is almost necessary on a crop camera. That nifty-fifty everyone loves is so hard to use day-to-day on a crop.

I do have some hunting issues with the 30mm in dark areas and do get quite a few misses.. but I haven't tried any L primes to compare with, so not sure if it's similar to those.

I also have the 50mm 1.4 from Sigma and I really love the smoothness of the bokeh.

I'm just getting in to DSLR's and trying to get useful lenses for myself.
I have the Nikon D5100. I already bought the 35mm f/1.8G [adorama.com]. The retail cost on the lens in this OP is double the price. Being that I already have the 35mm should I still jump on this? I know it's probably not going to get much cheaper then this price but I'm trying to figure out if having both lenses would be somewhat redundant.

If I didn't already have the 35mm I wouldn't even ask this question. I would definitely jump on this.

holy shit... I'm soooooooo glad that I was holding off buying a used one on ebay which usually goes for a little over $300.... and this is brand new.. holy shit... i can't contain my excitement anymore

this [engadget.com] seems to be the reason for it although i'm pretty sure the new one will cost atleast $150 more than this

Depends on your priorities. The Nikon 35mm is better for sharpness and AF accuracy. At max apertures the Sigma lets in 66% more light and has smoother background blur, and a slightly more usable length IMO. Normally I'd recommend the Nikon, but with the Sigma at this price it's a tough call. I personally would not have both because they are redundant.

For Canon crop users this lens is a no-brainer.
