Make sure to buy a rubber mallet or else you'll either damage the shelves or go through what this lady did. This thing is pretty easy to put together with two people.

Is this shelf at the Costco b&m or online?

I bought several HD units like 10 years ago -- they used to be made better, and came with thicker particle board. They are 48" wide and 24" deep.

A couple years later, I had to buy a couple more, and they used thinner EVERYTHING (sheet metal and particle board) and the brackets are not designed as well (the wood sets into the bracket instead of resting on top, which is a pain with thin wood since the sharp top edge of the bracket can grab and gouge anything soft like corrugate).

I would think for 36" wide x 14" deep, the board provided on these would be fine (not awesome, but fine). And it looks like the brackets are built better. Looks like a pretty solid deal to me.

To me, I wouldn't get plastic or wire type shelving -- only this kind or better.

Reviews on Amazon of Gorilla Racks with the same dimensions (but different part numbers) hammer these as being flimsy. Not sure if I should pull the trigger or not. At this price, might b easier to just buy shelving brackets and some decent plywood and build my own.

They aren't intended to easily slide together, which is what makes them so sturdy. It's snug, but they fit well. Use a rubber mallet as the directions call for.

I use these shelves. I put canned food and other long term food items on there (basically my pantry since I don't have one)

Works fine. I wouldn't put heavy tools on it

I have two of these larger ones, cost me $69 at Home Depot. I love them and will get more.

I have the Edsal and the Gorilla and prefer the Gorilla. The Edsals assemble by locking the tabs of the shelves into notches on the posts, but the tabs bend easily and don't always fit into the hole like they should (at least in my experience). That leaves shelves that are either uneven, not level or may not hold the full capacity that's intended. The Gorilla rack uses circular heads that fit into slots on the posts - they're much sturdier and don't bend at all. Both have a plywood shelf which will warp a little with weight and can stain if you spill something on them, but they're easily replaced. I recently moved and found the Gorilla racks easy to disassemble and reassemble (like they were brand new), where the Edsal's were tough to get back together since the tabs were bent...

The HDX shelves are all plastic and much easier to assemble. They can't hold as much weight as the metal Gorilla shelves though. Also the HDX are 36 inches wide vs the Gorilla shelves' 34 inches which could be a factor if your space is tight. I have a small utility closet on my patio which is 35 inches wide where I want a shelf so my only option between the two is the Gorilla (or build a custom setup).

I will see if I have something I can use, I don't mind using plywood if I have some left over, don't have to think about placing heavy items on the shelf or getting the shelves wet.
