There is a button right below the scroll wheel that changes the scroll mode. If you press it in, it becomes a click wheel, and when it's out it's a free scrolling wheel. You have to be in click-wheel mode for any kind of game or else it will scroll through the weapons automatically, etc.

I know they call the free scrolling mode "Document mode", but honestly I'm not sure why anyone would really want to use that.

The problem might actually be more prevalent, but most people won't notice it since it only really occurs when you are holding a button down for an extended period of time. A good test is to click-drag a box on the background of your desktop and move the mouse around in circles, and see if the start point for the box changes at all while dragging.

I noticed it when I was playing Skyrim and I couldn't cast spells because the mouse button was releasing for a split second when I was trying to charge the spell. Really annoying when a guy with a giant ax is chasing your armor-less mage around a cave.

Would this make a good ergonomic regular use mouse.

I'm looking for a wired ergo mouse for daily use/office work. Dont care much about gaming.

Would this be a good fit?

A guy at work ad the same complaint about the mice wheel moving freely. If you pay attention people, you might notice that one button under the wheel.

When I told him to press that button, he was in speechless.

Its really ergonomic, especially for big hands.

I have a different Logitech mouse that I leave in the free-scroll mode 100% of the time. Then again, I'm on a Mac where free-scrolling is the norm. Does it not work the same on Windows? If you move the scroll wheel and it still scrolls your window in 3-line steps or whatever, I can see where that would be infinitely annoying.

I find "hyper scroll" quite useful when dealing with large (usually text) files and web pages on my Logitech mice. Though I don't use it constantly, I do use it on a daily basis for brief periods (i.e. turn on, scroll to where I want, and turn off).

I've gone through two of these mice in the past 5 years, both failing with the dreaded "double click" failure on the left main button (you cant drag objects, cant click -drag-select. cant make a steady-line in a paint application without micro-breaks... its like the switch can't hold itself closed without being mashed). Logitech has replaced both without question; awesome support...love Logitech for that reason.


As for the mouse, its a rock star and despite the early switch failure on two units, I'll keep on buying this model until they retire it.


OH - and the splatter paint looks sort of greyish brown under areas where your hand touches it...but that's purely cosmetic.

Great mouse, nice features and a good feel in my hand. Admittedly, I did have one break - scroll wheel push click stopped clicking, but still registered the command. However, Logitech support is top notch and sent a new one in the mail w/o even requesting the old one back.

Yes, this is perfect for office work. I have it for 3 years already. It is perfect in Excel.
