Winegard FL-5000 FlatWave HDTV Indoor Flat Antenna (Refurbished) $18 + Free Shipping (expired)

I bought the Winegard from Amazon, and returned it - it did not work as well as a cheap amplified Terk I picked up at the same time. That said, i live a long way from the towers. If you're closer in this may be all you need.

Ack, see, that's what I'd like to see on sale. I can get a cheap antenna for $10, but can't find a cheap tuner. I have cable, but only in one room. I found a tv on the side of the road and thought, "Why not?" Paying $50+ just so I can have Jeopardy in my room...

Have you looked on your local Craigslist site? I took a quick look just now and see some for sale for around $20. That would be your best bet to get one cheap. Then it might be worth it. I wouldn't pay any more than that, most people got free ones back when they were available, so they can sell them cheap.

This antenna has been working great for me in the Los Angeles area where we have some stuff on high VHF and UHF. The Monoprice one I had before, this one [monoprice.com], couldn't handle both well and required constant adjustment.

I have this antenna, one in San Diego and one in LA. Both next to window and both work extremely well at picking up all channels. In San Diego, I was on bottom floor and pointing the antenna east from coast I had to have connecting cable metal sheath touching the window metal to get channel 6 and 8 to work. I also had to avoid moving around too much. When in bad weather these channels wouldn't work consistently. In LA, the antenna was on second floor and near Beverly Hills so all channels were superb.

I like the sound of the Winegard and this is convincing me as I need a second antenna. Others are saying it didn't work for them though. I read reviews and went with the white one that is $19 and that worked well for me in the la brea area on second floor.

EDIT: I ended up purchasing one. I want to see a comparison and since I probably have to buy a cable anyways, this will be worth it if for some reason the split doesn't work or the tvs are going at the same time and need different channels. If I don't use it, I have a friend who might still need one.

Check out tvfool.com to see what you can pick up where you are. I'm 30-35 miles from the transmitters and I can get most channels using a 7 foot antenna in my attic - both hi VHF and UHF. The antenna set me back like $50. This is okay if you're much closer to the transmitters I suppose.

I cancelled my cable 3 years ago and have not missed it. But I do enjoy having that extra money every month. Sometimes when I am at an office that has a tv on I think to myself that I am glad I'm not paying for this crap! Go ahead and do it.
