Though I don't feel this laptop is that great, I did purchase one on a friend's behalf just a few minutes ago. Price was $724 after tax, and they are sending me a $35 gift card, bringing the total purchase to $669 shipped.

and did you mean 689 shipped?

A 15 inch 1080p screen costs more to make than a 17 inch 1080p screen
And Sony's Refurbs only come with a 90 Day Warranty

However, I also regularly have up ~20 chrome tabs, excel, word, pdf reader, notepad++, and terminal software open all at once with little to no slowdowns.
The core 2 duos were awesome cpus for their time. For example, based on synthetics, my cpu (T5600) has similar computing power to the lower end AMD APUs (A4/A6) that just came out last year. I'm not saying it's a multimedia powerhouse, but it still gets the job done for me.

Depends what you're going to be using it for and if your budget can allow. This deal would be perfect for me but I can't stand the styling of the thing

I highly doubt the authenticity of this statement. Were you in a position that requires you to input a great deal of data, you won't be using the 10key on a laptop regularly -- and especially not a 15 inch. My brother owns an accounting firm. He and a couple of his employees all use a USB 10key HID, even in lieu of the full-sized keyboard. It's like buying a mechanical keyboard for gaming. When you are inputting at a rapid pace, the device makes all the difference in the world. I also don't buy the whole idea that your "statitician friends" would be opposed to using an external 10key HID. They weigh practically nothing, and if you're really doing that much work at home, Spending $10 to have one on both desks when you need it is nothing. More likely, you are a student and the "statisticians" you're referring to are fellow students that may be taking a class in statistics, in which case having the 10key on the laptop is more for convenience, yet palpable as they don't really do much in the way of data entry.
But feel free to doubt whatever you want, and make whatever presumptions you want. I'm offering my experiences to help inform others; you apparently are just trying to be an idiot.

If you're gaming or doing graphics work/modeling, probably. If not, maybe not. So that has both a SSD and a stndard hard drive?
