Pretty decent drive, no complains so far. They are essentially re-branded Hitachi 7200RPM drives.

This is a great price but I don't trust Newegg with shipping bare drives. They have a really bad track record because of their poor packaging practices.

what? ive ordered at least 10 bare drives from them. never had a problem at all with packaging.

I don't fully buy this line of thinking. Overall I think Newegg has improved their packaging.

Over the years I've bought many drives from Newegg and many of those were packed poorly as in bubble wrapped, with some packing peanuts in a brown box. Not once did I receive a DOA drive or have one die prematurely (about two dozen or so). Some of that is luck of course.

Just recently I purchased a 3TB WD Red from Newegg and it arrived DOA.

My point is that some blame here likely is with hard drive manufacturers today. Like many things, it seems they just don't make them like they use to and they don't guarantee them for as long as they use to either. For the consumer things have gotten worse in the post-floods, post-consolidation hard drive world.

Like I said I won't trust Newegg with a bare drive. I haven't bought one from them since 2010 though. They all had problems though, and they were all packed poorly. I do still see people complaining all over about the packaging and having DOA drives or bad sectors out of the box. I haven't had that trouble from Amazon OEMs or retail drives, at least yet.

I don't see people complaining all over about the packaging AND DOA drives. I do see people complaining about DOA drives.

For example, look at the first 100 Newegg reviews for the 3TB Western Digital Red [newegg.com]. Lots of complaints about DOA drives...but not the packaging. In fact many reviews were pleased with the packaging.

Again, consider that the problem may be the hard drive manufacturers of today.
