i own the chambord bodum french press but broke the carafe (glass part) on it, wish they just sold replacement carafes for 20% off.

replacement carafes look like they are about $20 on other sites... boo. do these cheaper 'brazil' models have a removable carafe? seems like they might be the same

The stainless 8-cup French press has been my primary coffee pot for about 6 years. If it weren't so well-made, then I'd be forced to buy another one

Edit: I actually have the 51-oz one here: http://bodum.bodum.com/us/en-us/s...&navid=262. It looks like buydig only has a 34-oz one.

The Brazil is removable, although not easily. I broke two glasses, once because carelessness, the other time the glass just shutters when I pour in hot water in cold winter morning....
So I ended up with Freiling Insulated Stainless Steel French Press [amazon.com] instead. Have it for over a year, its still shiny with few scratches. The filter assembly is superior to Bodum, it has coiled edges which allows the filter to hold its shape, wheres Bodum filters would deform overtime and allow more coffee grounds to pass through. It's expensive (bought mine for $68) but worth it if you think you will break couple glass carafes in your lifetime.

Never had the edge issue with my bodum - it has the same type filter. Maybe they recently changed them?

No edge issues with my bodum either. It's gotten harder to press over the years, but that's probably because I seem to use more and more coffee every year

I'm not sure exactly when I got my French press, but I checked some old emails, and it was at least 8 years ago. Well worth the $50 (prices have gone up quite a bit since then).

Edit: Mine doesn't have the kind of filter that the Frieling has. I wonder if there's a way to buy that filter to use in my French press.
