Fluoride free dental care is also an option, but involves a lot more work on the patient end to maintain proper oral hygiene. In my experience, very few high caries risk people are able to maintain a proper hygiene regimen that is Fluoride free. Ultimately, Fluoride is in the water (sometimes naturally), it's in tea naturally, it's in toothpaste, it's in many other foods naturally, and it can help lower your dental health care cost as well as keep you munching for a lot longer. People usually don't desire the alternative.

Doesn't nearly every mouthwash have alcohol? Isn't that pretty much the main active ingredient for it to work? There are a couple that explicitly advertise alcohol free but I thought it was understood that mouthwash has alcohol.

I've never heard that alcohol has carcinogens.

Your sources are articles that dramatize poorly done studies. The studies themselves are also not really from notable sources. The one somewhat notable study from Harvard compares HIGH and LOW concentrations of fluoride exposure. They're considering the LOW concentration as no concentration. This level is equivalent to or above the concentrations in drinking water and total exposure to any child/person under the guidance/care of general public health management and/or a Dentist. Not to mention that there are too many confounds to count when blatantly comparing two groups like that. To me, that paper screams 'research done for the sale of research and learning how to do research.'

Hype is hype. Many "reporters" or "journalists" are just fiction writers that source inspiration from facts to make interesting stories in an attempt to draw people in. Otherwise called "spin doctors."

There will always be opposition but the overwhelming evidence shows that fluoride is safe and enormously beneficial in controlled concentrations. The rate of dental disease has dropped dramatically since water fluoridation started. In addition, even if the fluoride levels were too high, an adult would probably die of fluoride poisoning before they're neurons are influenced.

Should you choose to be non-fluoride, don't drink the tap water and you should probably read about where your bottled water comes from since many springs are naturally fluoridated. Also stay away from most teas and you really should have a good preventative hygiene regimen planned out.

A lot of mouthwashes have alcohol, but there are plenty of choices without it, you just have to read the label.

Pretty much everything is a carcinogen in large enough quantities. The issue here is daily exposure to the alcohol increasing your risks. No, you're not going to die tomorrow, but if it's a risk factor you can eliminate, why not.
