Question
I'm moving from New York to Florida (I know, real original). I've never really spent any time there before, but the sunshine is calling me!
Doing some Googling, I've found loads of cool (typical) things to do: wildlife reserves, fishing trips, mini golf, Busch Gardens, etc.
But what are the other things I need to learn about? Both in a fun and practical sense!
I'll be in the Clearwater area, to narrow it down a bit. Please give me any information/recommendations you have because I know next to nothing. For example, I have read about the glory that is Publix from other SD threads, but have never been.
What kind of SD alerts should I set up so I'm getting the best deals?
Thanks in advance to all. Will rep if I'm able for all answers.

Ichetucknee springs [floridastateparks.org] is a favorite of mine in north florida. So much fun tubing down the river
DeLeon Springs is a nice visit and has a restaurant with a nice all you can eat pancake breakfast
We're here now (yes, I guess we brought the poor weather) and have been enjoying our initial explorations! The public transportation is quite limited, so a lot of the more adventurous exploring will have to wait a few months until I get my license.
All the food - um, FRENCHY's? SONNY's? - that we have had thus far has been spectacular. And the people aren't Southern - but do have those sensibilities, in that they are super duper sweet, polite, friendly, etc. Honestly, my hubby and I are immensely enjoying ourselves, and looking forward to fishing off a pier later tonight.
Yay for Florida! Can't wait to see what it's like in GOOD weather!

Also, Cocoa Beach is a barrier island which means you can be on the ocean watching the dolphins then walk/ride less than a mile west to the river (where you can see the manatees, parasailers and more dolphins)
I noticed people saying your should go to the state fair in Tampa & had to laugh. We went to a concert in Tampa in Feb. 2 years ago & were just rewatching at the video which we had documented the MILES & MILES of cars heading to the fair. We were glad we weren't going, but that's just us - we hate MILES & MILES of lines.
Since I'm on a roll, create a SD alert for all the theme parks. Me & hubby are going to Universal for FREE because of SD this month. We also got free tickets to Busch Gardens a year or so ago (had to join the NRA for it, but what the hay???) The parks do things to attract Florida residents so get ready to have a great time at your new home & welcome to Florida!! Good weather will begin soon - sorry we had to make it hot for your arrival
It's either cold (rarely), farking hot, or storming.

We do get a winter though. It's those 4-5 days each year that are actually cold.
