There are usually one or two big-ticket items that have amazing discounts on Black Friday, but with a lackluster selection of great deals year after year, the made-up shopping holiday is quickly becoming a day of spending for the uninformed.

The beauty of Slickdeals' forum is that every deal thread unofficially becomes a data point in a product's price history, allowing us to verify if seasonal sales are really worth it or just for show. Below is a list of this season's hottest items that we noticed had lower absolute pricing or a better value after Black Friday.

Lower Price After Black Friday

1.) Fitbit Charge 2 Heart Rate + Fitness Wristband

Almost every retailer was offering the Fitbit Charge 2 for $129.99 on Black Friday, some with varying amounts of in-store credit for future purchases, but a lower out-of-pocket price for this popular fitness tracker came just two days later, ringing up at $109.86 from Amazon.com.

The same happened to the Fitbit Charge HR — $89.95 during Black Friday, and two weeks later it's $49.99 with a free pair of Yurbuds earphones.

2.) PlayStation 4 Slim

$249.99 was the going rate this season for the newly launched PlayStation 4 Slim console, with a few retailers offering additional games, accessories, or in-store credit. And then came along this gift card strategy that knocked the price down for a standard console+game bundle to $200 — basically buy $250 worth of gift cards for $200 (email delivery), and turn right around to buy a PlayStation 4 with free shipping.

3.) 70" Vizio E70-E3 4K UHD SmartCast LED HDTV

This massive 4K home theater display appeared on our front page multiple times — it was available for $929.99 a week before Black Friday, $999.99 as a BF doorbuster, and again on December 12th for $899.99. Funny thing is that these prices were all from Best Buy, meaning that they beat their own Black Friday deal the week before.

Same Price, Better Value

4.) Sphero Star Wars BB-8 Droid w/ Force Band

BB-8, the lovable companion from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," rolled into homes for $99.99 during Black Friday. But if you weren't sure whether he was the droid you're looking for back then, the more expensive version that comes with a Force Band is available for $149.99 and includes a $50 Best Buy gift card, essentially bringing the final price down to $99.99.

5.) Google Chromecast

Google's popular streaming device regularly gets discounted to $25 throughout the year, and stores simply rehashed this standard deal for Black Friday. It's still available for $25, well into December, and now comes with three months of HBO Now — a $45 value.

Bonus Round

Apple 13.3" MacBook Air

Discounts are extremely rare on any kind of Apple product, but the 13.3" MacBook Air went on sale for $799.99 during Black Friday. And while it has since gone up in price, Best Buy's rotating College Student Coupon was offering an additional $100 off the same Macbook Air earlier in the year, dropping the price to an astonishing $699.99. It doesn't really fit into our narrative of post-Black Friday discounts, but it was too good of a deal for us to omit.

Shopping on Black Friday isn't all bad — there are definitely plenty of good deals available. But don't get upset if you missed out on something because a better opportunity might be right around the corner.
