Each year I look forward to the impending change of the fashion calendar, a time when retailers must slash prices and pile on the discount codes for clothing currently available. But rather than waiting until the end of winter to score deals on cold-weather clothes at a time when I start to not even need then, I prefer to do my shopping a season (or two) in advance. The result: a closet full of brand new thoughtfully selected new items ready and waiting for me in my closet as soon as the weather starts to change.
Shop the Best Quality Brands on Sale Before You Need Them
Right now, with summer in full swing, this is my preferred time to stock up on high-quality clothing for fall and winter, and even better, new pieces to have next summer. Not only do I get my Fall shopping out of the way at a time when I can save the most, but I also get to skip the stress or hassle of having to go to stores or pay the full price come September and after – especially, this year, since I’d much rather spend my time at home and shopping 2020’s Amazon Prime Day.
For example, summer just started but the season’s current clothing prices are already starting to hit rock bottom as retailers look forward to fall. Meanwhile, last season’s cold-weather clothing (which will still be fashion-forward this upcoming year since the CV-19 pandemic ruined the chance to see and be seen) is practically selling for free.
There’s really no limit to the deals you can find to help you stock up on clothing to be used in the future. Basics — including everything from t-shirts, shoes and accessories to not-too-trendy pants, tops and jackets — are great to buy during sales season to save and wear when the season rolls back around.
Of course, if you don’t want to wait, most items purchased mid-season can be worn immediately and for months more. However, I find the rock-bottom price tags mean I can get a major jump start on stocking up and socking away a few key outfits, including shoes and accessories, for next year at a fraction of the cost.
Get a Bigger Return Than Just the Savings
Timeless style is a better investment of your money
The key to making this type of serious wardrobe investment work for the long run: Select classic items that suit your personal style that you can layer and mix-and-match. Plus. opt for a higher quality where you can find it, so you don’t have to replace the same items year after year due to wear or new trends taking over. Rather than always just chasing after what’s next now and paying full price for it, opt for quality brands that tend to eschew trendier styles to focus on quality fabrics, construction and materials paired with great features and fit.
But what about clothing going out of style? It’s almost never a problem. Think about it: how many times has the weather suddenly changed as a new season approaches and you’ve had to just grab last year’s outfits while scrambling to go online to get something new to wear that’s not all worn out? So instead of pulling out a pilly sweater this fall, imagine unfolding a brand new one and slipping it on instead. Buy a crisp brand new polo at an incredible price now for next spring, and you’ll be able to pass on throwing on a ratty t-shirt when the first warm day of 2021 unexpectedly hits.
Ahead is a sample of some of my best recent finds (which I’m looking forward to unboxing and wearing in just a couple months), as well as suggested outfits for this upcoming fall/winter and next spring/summer you can get for next to nothing right now.
Experience the convenience of shopping (and trying on) at home
While some men are new to shopping online for their clothes, the trend is becoming more and more popular partly due to the convenience of being able to try everything on in the comfort of your own home.
Slick Tip: As always, to score even deeper discounts, it’s important to check for free shipping deals, and many online destinations offer a percentage off when you sign up for promotions with your email, which can be helpful for grabbing the best deals in your size right when they go live.
