Here’s what the remastered GTA Trilogy features now that it’s out in the wild:

  • Reworked graphics: Rockstar has reworked graphics “across-the-board.” That includes resolution upgrades and improved visual fidelity, among a variety of other tweaks, for users on both consoles and PC. Fans seem to be split about the art direction for the remasters. Overall, it’s a massive leap forward for the decades-old games.
  • New lighting system: Going beyond a simple retexture, GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition uses a brand new lighting system. This results in better shadows, more realistic water, and realistic reflections on vehicles.
  • Increased draw distance: Rockstar has significantly increased draw distance in all three games. Typically, it would occlude distant objects in a dense fog. That means you’ll be able to see more of San Andreas while exploring.
  • Modern controls: Improvements to lock-on targeting, weapon wheels, radio stations and mini-maps are just some of the changes you can expect in the GTA Trilogy: Definitive Edition. The original trilogy’s controls are a bit clunky by modern standards. Fortunately, Rockstar is doing everything in its power to ensure fans of GTA V aren’t thrown for a loop when checking out the remasters.
  • Standalone releases: According to Rockstar’s latest blog postGrand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition will be available as a standalone title for Xbox Game Pass subscribers on November 11th. Then, on December 7th, PlayStation Now subscribers can access Grand Theft Auto III.
