But all that innovation doesn’t come cheap. At $150, the G903 is right at the top end of what a serious PC gamer might spend on a mouse. And if you want the mouse pad too, that’ll be another $99. But for all that money, you are getting what is almost certainly the best wireless gaming mouse system available today.

Same Name, New Hero

For this review, we’re taking a look at the 2019 model version of Logitech’s G903, which was originally introduced in 2017. From the outside, everything looks identical to the previous version, but the most significant improvement is one you can’t see: its new sensor. Sitting at the heart of this mouse is Logitech’s new proprietary Hero 16K sensor, which not only ups the resolution to a maximum of 16,000dpi (a measurement for how sensitive the mouse is to nuanced motion), but more importantly, offers up to 10x better power efficiency than the previous sensor.

Go into Battle with the Perfect Pairing

If you really want to wipe out charging as a concern though, the G903 is also fully compatible with the Logitech G Powerplay mouse pad, which features wireless inductive charging technology built right into the mat itself. What this means is that whenever the mouse is in contact with any surface area of the Powerplay mat, it is being continuously charged, whether in use or not. You’ll never need to worry about battery levels whenever these two products are together.

The Powerplay wireless charging system comes with both soft and hard-surface interchangeable mouse mats, and also acts as the wireless receiver for the mouse itself. You don’t need to use the G903’s default USB receiver when the Powerplay pad is connected to your PC. This is a clever innovation because it reduces the distance that the mouse’s wireless signal needs to travel, eliminating interference issues and helping to cut down input response times to the claimed 1ms — it’s basically instantaneous.

I was able to bounce around maps in Quake Champions, picking off distant foes with pinpoint railgun shots with just as much accuracy as I usually achieve using my wired Razer Mamba mouse. I’ve always steered clear of wireless mice due to the common notion that they have an inherent input lag, but I can say with the highest of praise that the transition to the G903 wireless mouse was imperceptible. And if you ever need the reassurance of a wired connection, the G903 comes with a USB cable that carries both power and data, effectively giving you wired mouse functionality whenever you deem it necessary.

Tailored and Customizable

With concerns about battery life and input lag taken care of, how does the G903 fare in terms of being a PC essential?
Well, this all comes down to personal preference, so here’s my take on it. The G903’s overall shape is a bit bulky, but nicely rounded. And while I found it to be not quite as comfortable as my Razer Mamba, it’s nicely weighted. If you’re like me and don’t like how feather-light modern gaming mice have become, the G903 comes with an extra 10-gram weight that you can add via the expansion slot underneath. It’s worth noting, though, that this expansion slot is the same one used by the Powerplay pad’s required wireless charging module, so you’ll have to pick your perk: ballast or wireless charging.
All 11 buttons on the G903 are programmable, and if you’re left handed, you can easily add magnetically-attached side buttons to the right side of the frame.
And rounding out the essential stats is the fast 1000hz polling rate (the number of times per second your mouse updates your PC with motion input data), and the ludicrously high 16,000dpi sensor resolution mentioned earlier.

Should You Buy the Logitech G903 Lightspeed Wireless Gaming Mouse?

The Logitech G903 is an excellent mouse in its own right, but when paired with the Powerplay pad, the entire experience becomes phenomenal — input lag is imperceptible; interference is nonexistent; and, of course, battery concerns are a thing of the past. With that said, the decision to own a G903 gaming mouse ultimately comes down to pricing considerations.
At $150 for the mouse, and $99 for the Powerplay wireless charging system, the financial commitment is significant, especially when the 2017 model of the G903 can be had for about half that price. Granted, the performance and battery life won’t be top-notch, but it’ll be enough for most gamers.
So if you’re all about getting the best of the best, then pony up the cash for the 2019 G903 with the new Hero sensor. But if you’re willing to forego some battery life and sensor resolution, then you might consider grabbing the older model while it’s still in stock.
