Go for Gold
The HP Laptop 17 sets itself apart with its copper casing, giving the laptop a shiny metallic effect that contrasts the marble-effect adorning its lower deck.
This unique styling surrounds a full-size marble-white keyboard with white backlighting for that extra visual pop. This also helps with keyboard visibility in darker conditions. Below that, you’ll find a matching marble-white multi-touch pad with etching to clearly distinguish left and right-click zones.
This styling is exclusive to this specific model in HP’s range, which means it’s likely to remain unique even in an office full of HP laptops.
New for 2020
Newly updated for 2020, this laptop comes packed with a 10th generation Intel Core i7 – a fast multi-core processor that is well equipped for office work and productivity multitasking.
This is complemented by 16GBs of RAM and a fast 128GB M.2 SSD as the primary storage drive, which will help keep Windows load speeds down to a minimum. Meanwhile, a secondary 1TB hard drive provides ample storage space for large files.
The 17.3-inch screen provides a full HD 1080p resolution canvas for work or entertainment, with a peak brightness of 220 nits and topped with an HP TrueVision HD camera for high-resolution video calls.
Designed for All-Day Performance
HP notes that the HP Laptop 17 is designed for long-lasting performance. It aims to balance battery life with processing power for a fast yet efficient laptop. The chassis contains a 3-cell 41Wh battery that HP says is enough to “keep you connected, entertained and productive all day.” And it does this while maintaining a relatively light weight profile at around 5.43lbs.
The HP Laptop 17 also supports fast charging, so when battery life is critically low, you can achieve around a 50% recharge in 45 minutes.
In an age when laptops carry fewer and fewer ports, the HP Laptop 17 retains many of the common interfaces to help make it as utilitarian as possible without the need for adapters.
It packs three legacy USB Type-A ports, two of which are SuperSpeed ports rated for up to a 5Gbps signaling rate. One full-size HDMI cable is handy for connecting a second screen. Photo editors will appreciate the full size SD card slot, while a built-in Ethernet port allows for wired internet when local Wi-Fi is not cutting it.
Headphones and microphones are supported via a traditional auxiliary port, and Wi-Fi is provided by a Realtek (2×2) internal card, which also supports Bluetooth 4.2 for connectivity to most modern wireless devices.
The laptop also comes equipped with a full size optical media drive capable of reading and writing DVDs and CDs – something that is becoming increasingly uncommon in modern laptops.
This, along with fast and efficient processors and its large HD screen, helps make the HP Laptop 17 a good fit for work and entertainment on the go.
