In 2014, OnePlus entered the scene and quickly became a disruptor in the smartphone market. While competitors like Apple and Samsung were selling flagship devices at astronomical prices, the new manufacturer on the block was offering a “flagship killer” with the powerfully specced, yet crazy affordable OnePlus One.

Many years down the line, this tradition continues with the OnePlus Nord N200 5G, an affordable option to take advantage of the imminent 5G networks. But the niche of high-value, low-price devices does have a bit of competition nowadays. If you’re looking for a 5G device that won’t break the bank, other options include the Samsung Galaxy A32 5G and the Motorola One 5G Ace.

Budget-friendly devices tend to tone down some specs here and there to meet certain price points like a boxer trying to make their weigh-in. However, the OnePlus Nord N200 5G doesn’t make a sacrifice with its display, and it definitely packs a punch specswise. The device’s high resolution, pixel density, and refresh rate are all important traits for streaming or mobile gaming.

Neck and neck with the N200 5G, the Motorola One 5G Ace loses out on refresh rate. The Samsung Galaxy A32 5G unfortunately falls behind in this category with notably lower stats all around, including a lower resolution and refresh rate.

Depending on your occupation or hobbies, the camera may or may not be the most important feature on a smartphone for you. The Samsung Galaxy A32 5G and Motorola One 5G Ace win out in this category with components that are very much alike. The only differences are an additional 2MP depth camera and a Macro camera with 3 more MP on the A32 5G for more captivating portrait shots.

While the N200 features a triple rear camera setup similar to most of today’s higher-end mobile devices, the specs aren’t quite as embellished as the others’. As far as the front camera goes, the One 5G Ace and N200 both have 16MP selfie cams that are more than adequate to support your Zoom meetings or video chats with friends and family. The Samsung A32 5G dials back on the bravado a little bit for the front cam, but 13MP is still plenty to work with.

Though the OnePlus Nord N200 5G doesn’t have the best camera in the bunch, it may not be a big deal if you’re planning to use it as a personal or supplemental work device. This applies to extraneous gigs like Uber, Lyft, Doordash, Instacart, etc. It is not uncommon for gig workers to keep their work and personal life separate with multiple devices.

Performance without the Price

Each device is equipped with a 5G-compatible chip to bring stronger network reliability and faster downloads to the palm of your hand. When it comes to high-performing mobile devices, Qualcomm is usually the name you hear pretty often.

The OnePlus and Motorola phones are powered by a Qualcomm CPU, while Samsung features a MediaTek chip. Given the higher price tag of the Motorola One 5G Ace, it is only natural that it has the fastest processor of the three. Between the N200’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 and the A32’s MediaTek Dimensity 720, however, the OnePlus edges slightly ahead.

The One 5G Ace has 6GB of RAM, which is more than both the N200 5G and the A32 5G. 128GB is the base amount of storage for the One 5G Ace, while the A32 5G only has a 64GB option. Both the One 5G Ace and the A32 5G support cards up to 1TB, but the N200 only supports cards up to 256GB.

A Battle of Battery Life

All of these phones feature a large 5,000 mAh battery and will provide exceptional battery life. Under normal conditions, the N200 5G, A32 5G, and One 5G Ace should have no problems powering through all your daily activities.

The N200 5G, however, has slightly faster “fast charging” than the other two options. It runs on OxygenOS 11, a variation of Android, which recently received several battery-life improvements in the latest update. If you need power and you need it quick, the OnePlus offering is the winner here.

The Affordable 5G Champion

While Motorola’s One 5G Ace and Samsung’s A32 5G put up a good fight, the OnePlus Nord N200 5G takes the crown for the affordable 5G smartphone category. However, the other devices do have some pros that may suit different needs. If you really enjoy taking pictures, the A32 5G could be a better choice. And should you need a bit more processing power, the One 5G Ace is more attuned to that. Either way, getting a 5G device for less than $400 can be considered a win.

The Nord N200 5G is currently available in Blue Quantum at the OnePlus online store. To make the most out of your purchase, you can join the OnePlus Club to earn benefits like coupons and free shipping on future orders.
