COVID-19 has taken a major toll on the travel industry. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), airline passenger revenues will drop by $314 billion, which is a 55% decrease from 2019. The best travel credit cards that offer benefits like airline miles, free baggage and points for travel have adjusted to the times, and are now offering new perks for customers stuck at home.

Why Chase Is Offering These Perks

To ensure people keep using their travel cards, Chase is responding to the demand for different kinds of spending during the coronavirus pandemic.

People aren’t flying on planes or traveling around the world. Instead, they’re going on road trips to local destinations. It only makes sense that Chase would offer rewards at gas stations at this time in order to serve those adventurous road trippers.

The demand for delivered groceries has shot up during COVID-19 since people are afraid of going to the grocery store and possibly contracting the virus. Instead, they’re ordering groceries online and through apps like Instacart and then enjoying their home-cooked meals while watching streaming services.

Details About Chase’s New Rewards Categories

Instacart Express, which offers free delivery, is $9.99 a month if you pay monthly, or $99 a year if you pay annually. With the $50 statement credit from these Chase cards, you pay only $49 for the annual fee and you’ll get $0 delivery fees on orders of $35 or more, no busy pricing fees during peak hours and reduced service fees, which are usually 5% for non-Express subscribers.

>>FREE DASHPASS: Chase Cardholders Can Enjoy Meal Delivery With Complimentary Door Dash Membership

Netflix, Disney+, Vudu, Pandora, Hulu and Spotify vary in price; they range from less than $5 a month to up to $16 a month depending on your plan. But with 5X to 10X points, you’ll get more bang for your buck.

Pay Yourself Back

Through September 30, Chase Sapphire Reserve and Chase Sapphire Preferred are also offering the Pay Yourself Back feature. With this feature, cardmembers can use points towards everyday purchases in categories like grocery stores, home improvement stores and dining, which includes takeout, restaurants and eligible delivery services. Points are worth 50% more for Sapphire Reserve cardmembers or 25% more for Sapphire Preferred cardmembers upon redemption. You can find this feature in the Ultimate Rewards portal, and you’ll be able to apply points to pay for all or part of existing purchases in these categories, and then get paid back with a statement credit.
