Where to Find the Best Smartphone Deals on Black Friday 2017

The latest flagship phones don't have to cost flagship prices with these Black Friday discounts.

If the latest flagship phones from brands like Apple, Samsung and Google top your family's holiday gift list this year, you've likely already been dismayed by prices for these highly sought after phones reaching more than $900.

But don't rush to take out a second mortgage on your home — we've compiled a list of Black Friday smartphone deals that should help cushion the blow to your wallet.

2017 Black Friday iPhone X, 8 and 8 Plus Deals

We aren't confident that the face detection on your new iPhone X can detect sorrow, but your family is sure to notice the disappointing look of paying retail. Thankfully, these deals on Black Friday should help reduce the cost of the latest iPhone models.

Walmart has the best incentive so far with a $300 Walmart gift card if you purchase and activate a new iPhone X, 8, 8 Plus, 7 or 7 Plus on a qualifying AT&T or Verizon account.

The deal requires no money down for those with qualifying credit, and activations start at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving day. However, be sure to get to your local store by 6 p.m. to schedule an activation appointment for your device later in the evening.

For Target shoppers, the retail giant is offering a slightly lower deal on only the new iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. Eligible Black Friday shoppers who activate a new iPhone 8 with either Verizon, AT&T or Sprint will receive a $250 Target gift card.

Target has even set up a landing page to check your account and make sure you are eligible to participate in the promotion. If qualified, head to the electronics section of your local Target on Thanksgiving day at 6 p.m., add your name to a waitlist system, then wait for an SMS alert letting you know that it is your turn to activate your new device.

2017 Black Friday Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, and Note 8 Deals

Tis' the Season of Samsung this year as the latest line of Samsung devices are being offered with heavy incentives nearly everywhere. Be prepared to fight it out with the iPhone crowd as the same $300 Walmart gift card deal is being offered on the S8, S8+, and Note 8 with qualifying plans at AT&T or Verizon.

Not to be left out, Target is upping the gift card $50 over their iPhone 8 deal to give anyone activating a new Galaxy S8 or S8+ a $300 Target gift card.

If that someone special on your list is looking forward to a "Blue Christmas" then you may want to check out the Best Buy exclusive Coral Blue Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, or an exclusive Deepsea Blue Note 8.

All three Samsung devices — in any color you choose — are part of a Black Friday promotion that gives a $300 discount off  activation and payment plans with Verizon and Sprint.

Unlike the deals from Target and Walmart, this deal is an actual discount from the total cost of the phone and not simply a gift card. Also, those who don't want to be tied to a carrier's payment plan can get $150 off an unlocked Galaxy S8, S8+ or Note 8 without any activation required.

2017 Black Friday Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL Deals

While most of the smartphone love this holiday season is surrounding the latest products from Apple and Samsung, Target is here for the Google purists.

The latest Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL flagships can be activated during the Black Friday sale to gain you a $200 Target gift card.

threadID: 10741615

Activation of a payment plan on either Verizon, AT&T or Sprint is required, but this is one of the few discounts you'll find on the Pixel 2 for some time.

Update 11/15/17: Thanks to @thetanmancan39 for pointing out that the Pixel 2/2 XL can only be activated with Verizon through Target. AT&T and Sprint loyalists won't be able to take advantage of the Pixel 2/2 XL $200 gift card promo via Target.

Other 2017 Black Friday Smartphone Deals

We know that a lot of Slickdealers out there that aren't looking to get locked into a plan for 24 months with a wireless provider. While there aren't many deals for unlocked phones, there are still a few options out there for those on a budget.

The latest Moto G5 Plus — which we reviewed and found to be a fair alternative to much pricier phones — is on sale this holiday season. Best Buy is offering a 64GB Lunar Gray Moto G5 Plus for only $224.99 during their Black Friday event. The phone is unlocked, doesn't require any activation through a wireless provider, and can be purchased online without the hassle of standing in long lines.

For those Apple fans that don't want to bother with ballooning screen sizes and various interface changes, we may have a deal for you. Walmart has a deal for a Straight Talk Wireless iPhone 6 with 32GB for only $129. Even cheaper still, Target has the iPhone SE with 32GB of storage for just $99 through Total Wireless. Both of these providers are month-to-month, but the phones cannot be unlocked and transferred to another carrier without at least 12 months of service.

Study Each Promotion's Terms and Conditions!

Be sure to read through the requirements from each cellular provider for these Black Friday promotions. Many Slickdealers are quick to activate a line of service in order to get the discount, and then try to transfer or cancel the wireless plan upon paying off the phone.

If this is your plan, be sure to take into account various fees per line or other requirements in the payment plan. Generally, the best Black Friday deals on the newest flagship phones apply only to existing customers of the mentioned wireless providers. You can also browse the rest of our Black Friday smartphone deals to see what meets your needs.

These retail store that offer gc are third party vendors. If you have an issue the retailer can not help you. I got screwed at target by the vendor and ended up paying $1000 more for my phones than when originally spoke to the vendor who stated I could do a BOGO through sprint and still get gc. The sprint BOGO did not apply because vendor read BOGO offer incorrectly. Target could not do anything to help.

Would ATT BOGO apply in any of these stores? Walmart, Target or BestBuy?

Can you please elaborate on "Many Slickdealers are quick to activate a line of service in order to get the discount, and then try to transfer or cancel the wireless plan upon paying off the phone." I was planning on cancelling the wireless plan after 1st month by paying off the device. I was under the impression that I will only be paying 1st month's service, activation fee and full price of phone. Please clarify if there will be any additional fees.

I've called five local Walmarts and they all say that they don't expect to have the iPhone X in stock for the deal or that they don't sell mobile phones. Has anyone had any luck in finding a location that will have it?
