Regretting some of those pre-coronavirus purchases? The current shelter in place orders have left many of us with unwanted merchandise we did not get a chance to return in time. Whether or not your favorite retailers are still open, this is not the best time to worry about getting your refund.
Thankfully, many retailers have extended their return policies, and you will still have plenty of time to get your money back. Just remember to hang on to your receipts! Here are some of the coronavirus store return policy changes to keep in mind.

Apple

Apple usually has a strict return window, but because all of its storefronts are shut down, Apple store return policy has changed to give customers an additional 14 days to return items once the stores reopen. Some products, such as opened software, will remain ineligible to return.

Foot Locker

All Foot Locker customers who made purchases in the store or online after February 1st, 2020 will be given an extra 30 days after the stores reopen to return or exchange merchandise. Shoppers can still mail in online returns, but processing and refunds may be delayed.

GameStop

The good news is that you can still get your game pre-orders through Gamestop’s Delivery@Door curbside pickup. However, they will not be accepting returns through this service. They have announced that they will extend the return and exchange window once stores are reopened but did not offer specifics beyond that.

Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic

All of the stores owned by Gap, including Athleta and Hill City/, will accept returns on purchases until July 1st, 2020. This new return date is only valid for purchases made in 2020.

J. Crew

J. Crew has extended the return and exchange window 60 days for all purchases made after March 1st, 2020. You can also ship back your items for a $7.50 fee that is taken out of your refund.

Kohl’s

Kohl’s added an additional 30 days for customers to return items after the stores reopen. This is 30 days on top of their 180-day policy, which means you still have time to return your unwanted Christmas gifts.

Macy’s

Macy’s is offering a generous return window to its shoppers. They are extending the return window 60 days beyond the original return date. Since all of their products have different return windows, this means that most purchases will now have a 150-day return period. Jewelry, watches, dresses and small electrics will now have 120 days, while Macy’s Backstage and Last Act Clearance have 90 days. All tech purchases have 75 days.
Note that online purchases have the option for free mail-in returns, but in-store purchases do not have this option.

Sephora

For Sephora purchases made in-store on or after February 15th, 2020, the store will issue a full refund for new or gently used items up to 30 days after the stores reopen. Online purchases can be returned via mail for a refund, and they’ve extended the return period from 30 to 60 days for those returns. Sephora purchases made through JCPenney’s in-store Sephoras must be processed through JCPenney.

Target

Target no longer accepts in-store product returns and exchanges at this time, but don’t worry about missing the return deadline. Target will honor return deadlines for an additional three weeks after they begin accepting returns again. Additionally, all Target.com purchases can be returned through the mail using their online return center.

Victoria’s Secret

Victoria’s Secret will be extending its return policy for 30 additional days, giving shoppers 120 days total to make a return. You can also return your purchases through the mail without an additional charge. You can print a return label from their site.

I am a lifestyle and personal finance writer based in SoCal and have been a freelance writer since way before working remotely was the new norm. Being a wife and a mom to three young awesome kids, I have made it a regular habit to check out Slickdeals (even before joining the SD content team) to help fill up my pantry and gift closet for 50-70% off retail prices. As a family of five, we go through snacks, gifts, and toilet paper at an alarming rate, so I love a good deal and am also not afraid to dig through a thrift store to score incredible finds. When not writing about amazing deals to help people save and cool things on sale, I am taking care of my three girls, homeschooling, or stuck with my nose in a book. Sometimes, at the same time.
