It’s not quite Amazon Prime Day, but there are still great deals before the big event.

For a limited time, Prime members can grab an Amazon Fire TV Recast for $129.99 (Reg. $229.99) to further enhance their entertainment arsenal. There’s an upgraded option available as well for $179.99 (Reg. $279.99) that includes 4 tuners instead of 2 and twice the recording capacity.

While you’ll save $100 on this DVR, you need to buy some additional equipment if you don’t already have the full Amazon ecosystem set up. You’ll need a 35-mile HD Antenna for $19.99 and a Fire TV Stick for $39.99 if your television isn’t Fire-enabled.

As usual, shipping is free for Prime members but you have the option to choose same-day or one-day delivery. And don’t forget you can save an additional 5% if you use an Amazon credit card to make your purchase.

What Is the Amazon Fire TV Recast and Is It Worth It?

Of all the electronic goodies Amazon offers, you might not be as familiar with the Fire TV Recast. The Recast is a DVR that lets you watch and record up to 300 hours of your favorite shows, live sports and local news — all without a monthly fee. And since it is also Alexa-enabled, you can manage the device with just your voice for a hands-free entertainment experience.

Slickdealer _youreAtowel shared a detailed review of the product that might help you decide whether the Amazon Fire TV Recast is a yay or a nay for you:

“I have been a cord cutter for a couple years now. I picked this up as soon as it was available. While I do love it, there are some drawbacks. It only outputs 720P. Depending on the version you get, you can only watch two live streams at once, even with the four tuner version.

Depending on your ISP, the out-of-home streaming works pretty well. Can’t say I have had any issues with streaming away from home.

The other annoying drawback is the lack of program guide on their fire TV mobile app. You can only see what is currently live on TV via the Fire TV app. I wish they would enable 1080P streaming… That is what bugs me most.”

While many agree about the drawbacks, the community consensus is that the Recast is well worth the price compared to other DVRs.
