Things to Consider Before Applying

While the benefits are nice, it's important to recognize the potential drawbacks of this card as well. The $99 annual fee after the first year might be a deal killer for some, but worth it if you'd save more than that on flights to Hawaii. You should also note that you may not be eligible at all if you've used this specific card in the past.

Like most credit cards, the Hawaiian Airlines World Elite Mastercard® is subject to credit approval. Based on your credit, you'll be paying an APR of either 18.24%, 22.24% or 27.24% on your purchases.

How to Make the Most of a Hawaiian Airlines World Elite Mastercard

This card makes the most sense for people who frequently travel using Hawaiian, especially with the free checked bag perk. Booking tickets with Hawaiian gets you triple points on each purchase, which can accrue pretty quickly if travel a lot.

Hawaiian offers international travel throughout the Pacific, so here's a breakdown of the mileage you can earn by traveling to these destinations. All listed prices are roundtrip, economy bookings. (NOTE: Prices will change. They are accurate at the time of writing.)

  • Honolulu, Hawaii (HNL) to Tokyo, Japan (HND): $1,010.93 (3,032 miles)
  • Honolulu, Hawaii (HNL) to Sydney, Australia (SYD): $1,199.03 (3,597 miles)
  • Honolulu, Hawaii (HNL) to Los Angeles, California (LAX): $542.20 (1,626 miles)

A few international bookings from Honolulu can easily break the $2,000 threshold needed to earn you those bonus 60,000 miles, as well as netting you an additional 6,000 miles or so in the process.

What You Can Do with 60,000 Bonus Miles

So, what does 60,000 miles actually mean to you as a traveler? We would argue that one of the best ways to use bonus miles is to travel in style. For example, with your 60,000 miles, you can get an economy flight from Los Angeles to Kauai with a first class return trip. That's normally a $767.29 value. It's a great way to treat yourself, especially if you were going to book a similar flight anyway.

If you live in Hawaii or travel there frequently, this is definitely a deal to consider.
