How to Cancel Your DirecTV Now Subscription

Cancel your DirecTV Now account in 5 easy steps.

how-to-cancel

If you signed up for DirecTV Now just to get a free Apple TV or Fire Stick, and for whatever reason don't want to keep your subscription, you can cancel at any time by logging into your account.

Here are the steps to cancel DirecTV Now:

  1. Log in to your account and click the avatar in the top right corner
  2. Click User Account
  3. Click Manage My Plan
  4. Click Cancel Plan
  5. Confirm your cancellation on the following screen

Step 1

Go to directvnow.com/accounts/sign-in/ and log in to your account. If you don't remember your login, use the "forgot your password" link.

Step 2

Click on the avatar in the top right corner (see red arrow) to get to your account page.

cancel directv now

Step 3

Click the User Account link.

Step 4

Click Manage My Plan.

cancel directv now

Step 5

Click Cancel Plan and confirm your cancellation on the following screen. You should receive a confirmation email that your cancellation went through. The screen below is also the place to go if you want to modify your plan and add or remove HBO, for example.

You can always activate your subscription again, but remember that if you signed up during the promotional period — when you could get the Go Big package for $35 instead of $60 — you lose out on that rate if you cancel and sign up again later.

Since you had to pre-pay for three months to get the free Apple TV, you don't have to return it if you cancel your subscription early. You will not be able to get your $105 back, however, so you might as well enjoy your three months.

What about getting reimbursed? (even if we need to send back the apple TV) since their service doesn't work with either apple TV nor fireTV... in fact it doesn't work at all with TVs... it only works with cell phone and computers...
What are you talking about? The service work with AppleTV.

I think this is more of a user error (you) than the service.

it sporadicaly freezes, sometimes it resumes, sometime the app display some error Q-code. the apple TV itself works fine with other apps (netflix),
I followed their troubleshooting steps (updated, rebooted, reconnected, using a GB switch and cat 6e shielded).
finally I chatted with their helpdesk (they don't support phone call btw) who confirmed that they have bugs in their appleTV and FireTV apps...

Signed up for three months on launch day and can't wait for my term to be over so I can switch to Playstation Vue. The DirecTV Now streams are almost unwatchable during prime time with constant freezing. It's despicable that they are making people pay money to beta test the service.

Where the hell else are you going to get all those channels for $35 a month? They're suffering growing pains, but it'll likely get better as time goes on. Stick with your crappier alternatives and I'll continue to love saving each month since I was able to get rid of cable with an ACTUAL alternative to U-Verse with all the channels I had before.

I'm thankful for this post. I think everyone needs to know what happened here. A lot of people including yours truly signed up for the Direct TV NOW service thinking it was going to be the panacea for all cord cutting problems. And the carrot of the special price to be only available during the initial launch pushed a lot of people over the edge. This service from Direct TV is a piece of crap - never worked reliably for me, even after applying all their app and software updates.

I officially hate Direct TV NOW. I cancelled Playstation Vue and had to re-subscribe, losing $$ in the process. So effectively now I'm paying for 2 services for the next three months.

I still find a lot of supporters of this service, since some of the people are coming directly off of cable tv and have not known anything better for such a price. But if you ask the experienced streamers, who've had Sling or Vue, they will tell you what a good streaming service should work like...thats not what Direct TV NOW is about. I'm not saying it will not get better; I will consider it then. Now is not the time for Direct TV NOW.

Thank you for posting - I have a reminder set for me to cancel when the initial 3 month term is over . I will use the instructions here to do just that.

Thank You.

"All those channels" that don't work when you need them to work. When that happens, any dollar paid to direct tv is money down the drain. I would rather pay $40 for something that works rather than $35 for something that does not.

I used to have Sling TV before...but cancelled since I needed DVR functionality. Sling also recently added the DVR capability - so the Sling Blue for $25 might be even better, I am looking for some reviews on Sling's DVR before falling into another trap.

I don't understand the whining about losing three months. You chose to pre-pay for the three months because you got a Apple TV worth more than the amount you paid for. You could have just easily done the week long trial and if it wasn't for you cancelled at any time not losing a dime.

I signed up for 3 months with Free apple TV and an alleged 7 day trial. I log in and realize it won't work for me. I chat in within 5 minutes of signing up to cancel. No, they can't do that. It's too late. They are sending the Apple TV and refuse to cancel. I decide to give it a 2nd chance so I log on today. You cannot watch anything streaming. It freezes for longer than it streams. This is a dishonest company and I will be disputing the charge and refusing the apple TV.

The "worth of any product" is very relative, varies for different situations and may be different for different people.

"I" am whining...since for "MY" situation...I chose to prepay but not for the apple TV. I did not need an apple tv as I had a few of those already...I never had such an experience with another video streaming service before. I have/am subscribed to most of the primary ones that have ever existed: Aereo, Netflix, Sling, Vue, Prime.

I presumed that in this case the CORE service/product would work just fine, the free apple hardware was a cherry on the sundae. That's where the mistake was made. Also a one week trial is not sufficient to try for me, I need more time to try such things...and of course I have every right to whine for my situation, since its mine...you don't have to agree Smilie

You can keep your service, but I'm cancelling and sharing my thoughts here for those who are considering signing up.

I've been using the one month free trial for about a week now and it works great on my Fire TV. On my second Fire TV that's connected to a repeater, I sometimes get buffering or the picture freezes, and sometimes get kicked out of the app. But usually only when I'm also steaming on the main Fire TV at the same time. I'm thinking those having major issues have bandwidth issues. I don't have an Apple TV. I bought an iPhone 5 once, and decided Apple products just aren't for me. Maybe Apple TV app issue? But works great on Fire TV if you have reasonably fast internet. I get about 37.5 Mbps on the main connection. I only get 15-18 Mbps on the repeater, and it works fine. But when I'm streaming DirecTV Now on the main Fire TV connected to the main router, I only get 5Mbps on the repeater. So, I have issues on the second Fire TV when I try both at the same time

I've been using it on a FireTV and the Apple TV for about a month and had some serious connectivity issues at first (on a 300Mb connection), but for the past 2 weeks it's been perfect. At $40 including HBO, this is the best streaming deal out there.
