Imagine getting an extra travel day for free. Thanks to Leap Day 2020, you can. Not only will a whole day be added to the calendar, there are plenty of places all over the world where travelers can snag a free hotel for the night.

From Hotel Ranga — which is located just an hour outside of Iceland’s Reykjavik — to all the Moxy hotels across New York City, we’ve gathered a list of the top spots to find Leap Day freebies. Some of these hotels will even throw in a complimentary bottle of bubbly. Whatever the deal may be, this could be the perfect time to book that spontaneous getaway you’ve been dreaming about.

Free Leap Day Hotels

Kixby Hotel — New York, New York

Receive a one-night stay at the recently opened Kixby Hotel in NYC and a bottle of Cava for free, just for being born on a leap year. You’ll have to show a government-issued ID to prove your birthday, and you’ll need to email stay@kixby.com starting February 24th, 2020 for an advanced reservation.

Also, you have to book prior to 10 a.m. EST on February 28th, 2020. Rooms are limited, so it’s best to jump on this promotion ASAP.

Hotel Ranga — Reykjavik, Iceland

It may be time to take a romantic getaway to Reykjavik. Women are entitled to a free night at Hotel Ranga if they propose to their partners exactly on Leap Day.

It’s part of the “Take the Leap” initiative, and the hotel is ready to make any dream proposal ideas come to life. Afterwards, the happy couple will also be gifted breakfast, chocolate covered strawberries and a bottle of champagne, all on the house.

Sanderling Resort — Duck, North Carolina

This may not be a free night, but it’s pretty close. All guests staying at the Sanderling Resort in the Outer Banks between February 16th and March 1st, 2020 can add-on one extra night for a mere $29 in honor of Leap Year 2020. To make it happen, just call 888-281-1053.

Keep in mind that you’ll have to buy at least one night at the typical rate (usually around $179-$232).

The James — New York, New York

From now until February 28th, 2020, all customers who stay at least two nights at Soho’s The James hotel will instantly get a third night at no extra charge. Note, this is based on availability and it can’t be combined with any other offer. If you’re looking for an excuse to hit up the Big Apple, this might be the nudge you’ve been waiting for.

InterContinental — Los Angeles, California

Similar to the Sanderling Resort, LA’s InterContinental is selling rooms for as little as $29 on Leap Night. The catch is, you need to make a reservation at full price for the night before on February 28th, 2020 to be able to get the extra night at the $29 price tag. Call 1-877-666-3243 or 866-782-2743 and mention code IKOTH to get the cheaper rate.

Hotel Vermont — Burlington, Vermont

You may not be able to get a free room at Hotel Vermont, but it does offer other complimentary amenities for Leap Day. In honor of the special day, all bookings made through February 29th, 2020 will only be $129.

Considering rooms typically cost more than $200, this is still a bargain. In addition, guests can will receive a free dinner at the hotel’s Juniper restaurant, complete with sparkling wine and cake.

Halcyon Hotel

Denver’s Halcyon Hotel is simply providing a 29% off discount for Leap Day. However, if you were lucky enough to have been born on February 29th, you’ll be given a free suite upgrade. You just need to prove your birth date with a valid driver’s license or government-issued ID.

Moxy Hotels

If your birthday is on February 29th, you can get a free room at the Moxy Hotels in NYC located in Chelsea, the East Village and Times Square. Make your reservation by sending an email to sales@moxytimessquare.comsales@moxychelsea.com or sales@moxyeastvillage.com.

On top of your free night, you’ll also be presented with a free bottle of prosecco. All in all, that’s not a bad way to celebrate getting older.

The Meritage Collection — California and Hawaii

The only thing you have to do to make the most out of The Meritage Collection’s Leap Day deal is reserve multiple-night stays. Note that the terms and conditions for the free night vary by location.

For instance, guests get their complimentary night at the Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa in San Diego and Huntington Beach’s Pasea Hotel & Spa only after staying three nights. While it takes four nights at the Ko’a Kea Hotel & Resort in Hawaii’s Poipu Beach to get a fifth one at no additional charge.

In Napa, the Meritage Resort & Spa, along with the Vista Collina Resort, simply require two nights to get the third for free. Moreover, there will be a daily $29 resort credit added for each day. In conjunction with the free night, that credit could result in up to $600 in savings depending on the length of your stay.
