Roku and Walmart are Teaming Up to Bring You Budget-Friendly Audio Options

Back in September, Roku announced the release of two new audio products, Roku Smart Soundbar and Roku Wireless Subwoofer, for $180 each. Now Roku has unveiled an exclusive new partnership with Walmart, and the two companies are starting things off with an even more budget-friendly version of the soundbar and wireless subwoofer.

These cheaper alternatives will be released under Walmart’s ONN brand and cost $129 each. Like the more expensive Roku-branded speakers, the ONN-branded devices are capable of Bluetooth streaming and support Dolby Audio. They can be physically connected to a TV using HDMI-ARC or HDMI and Optical. At this time, no firm release date has been announced, but based on Walmart’s phrasing it seems like the devices will be widely available soon.

While Roku’s normal models are pretty similar to the ONN versions, there are some functional and cosmetic differences between the two. For one, the ONN devices will not include the voice-controlled remote that comes with the Roku-branded devices. Additionally, the ONN-branded soundbar’s power peaks at 40W, as opposed to the Roku soundbar’s 60W. In that same vein, the ONN subwoofer peaks at 150W instead of the Roku-branded subwoofer’s 250W. The Onn Wireless Subwoofer is also slightly smaller than the Roku Wireless Subwoofer.

Roku is aiming to improve the average streaming experience with the introduction of the Smart Soundbar and Wireless Subwoofer. The new systems have adaptive listening modes that can equalize sound inconsistencies (say goodbye to overly loud commercials) and can be set to a “night mode” that automatically reduces the volume when it gets dark. However, the best feature of the ONN devices is their reasonable pricing, making them a solid option if you’re considering upgrading your listening experience on a budget. After all, even the least expensive soundbar / subwoofer combo sounds better than your built-in TV speakers.
