Amazon Prime Day 2016

Word on the street is that Amazon will have more than 100,000 deals this Prime Day, which kicks off on Tuesday, July 12. To help you get the most bang for your buck, we're sharing a few insider secrets.

Here are three things we just found out about Prime Day 2016.

1. If You Have an Amazon Echo, You'll Have a Leg Up

What a lot of people don't know is that Alexa, Amazon's now-famous virtual assistant, is doling out special early deals for Echo owners only. Simply ask her if she knows of any Prime Day deals, and see what happens. (I just tried it, and it works.)

According to my Echo, I can get an Amazon Tap for just $79, a Cuisinart Griddler for $40, or a Dromida Drone for $25. The Tap deal, which translates to a 39% discount, is available only for today. What's more, Alexa will also take an extra $10 off my first Echo-powered order made between now and Prime Day.

The feature is in line with Amazon's big push for voice shopping. “The day has come where you no longer have to visit a screen to shop," Assaf Ronen, the company's VP of Voice Shopping, said in a press release.

Where Prime Day is concerned, the takeaway here is to check in with your Echo daily for exclusive deals.

2. Expect Special Prime Now Deals

Prime Now is a service that gives Prime members same-day delivery in select zip codes. There are currently 27 cities on the list, including Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago and Atlanta. In the run-up to Prime Day, people who make their first-ever Prime Now order between now and July 12 will get $10 off their order (promo code: 10PRIMENOW). The kicker? They'll get a fresh promo code sent to them on July 13 for another $10 off to be redeemed later this month.

There's also another Prime Now discount currently available for folks who live in one of the 12 metro areas that offer restaurant delivery. New members who place their first Prime Now Restaurant order will snag $10 off, as long as their order is at least $20 (promo code: EATNOW10).

3. Amazon Is Already Running Great Deals

Amazon has been promoting various "Deals of the Day" in the lead-up to July 12. Many of the best current deals are in the tech accessories category, but we've seen a few slick deals for home goods as well. Here a few that caught our attention. Click on the deal title to see what they community is saying about the deal, or click "See Deal" to go straight to Amazon.
