Andrew's Favorite Products from CES 2018
CES 2018 was a special kind of beast, playing host to over 170,000 attendees spread across numerous venues and hotels, which made getting around one of the biggest challenges by far.
And when the exhibit booths were finally within reach, the next daunting task was sifting through tons of copy-cat products in an effort to find true innovation.
It's literally impossible to see everything at CES, but I did manage to find some very cool products that are guaranteed to make an impact on our tech and entertainment-oriented lifestyle.
Keep scrolling for a collection of my favorite new and upcoming products that I feel are within reach for the average Slickdeals user. And as cool as they are, I won't be showcasing any far-out concepts like 146-inch TVs or 8K displays because they're either not going to be produced or are too expensive.
Dell Advanced 4K Laser Projector
Streaming shows and movies are a very important part of our lives now, and Dell showcased a bunch of products that really enhance our personal viewing experience.
The first thing that caught my eye as I wandered through the #DellExperience was a movie playing from an Advanced 4K Laser Projector — except I didn't know it was a projector image at first glance. "Wow, this is a big TV," I thought as I walked through a relatively well-lit area. Then I looked down at an entertainment cabinet to find the ultra-short throw laser projector stealthily embedded in the piece of furniture.
Sitting less than 9 inches away from the wall, Dell's Advanced 4K Laser Projector produced a vibrant and smooth 130-inch 4K picture that didn't require the space to be completely dark. There were many other 4K laser projectors throughout CES, but I felt Dell's version had the best clarity, color reproduction, and picture quality.
Cheers to Dell for bringing the movie theater into our living rooms!
Zolo Liberty Wireless Earphones
Starting at $99, Zolo's Liberty series of true-wireless earphones deliver amazing sound quality and up to 48 hours of playback time. Using graphene-coated sound drivers, these earbuds produce a better audio experience than many over-ear headphones — the bass hits really hard!
Setting up Liberty takes just a few seconds, and they automatically power on and off when leaving or returning to the finely crafted aluminum case. I don't think I've ever worn a more comfortable pair of earbuds — the GripFit sleeves can be swapped or removed completely to fit a variety of ear shapes and sizes.
The Liberty+ model ($199) features a slightly larger driver, Bluetooth 5.0, and is accompanied by the Zolo Life app, which allows you to adjust EQ settings as well as activate a "Transparency" mode that lets outside sounds pass through.
Both Liberty models support Siri and Google Assistant.
Honorable mention: Zolo Model Zero, an elegantly designed portable home speaker with Google Assistant.
Huawei Mate 10 Pro
When it comes to flagship phones, Huawei's Mate 10 Pro sets the bar very high with a Leica Dual Camera, a powerful 4000 mAh battery, a 6-inch QHD+OLED display, and the ability to reach gigabit LTE speeds.
The Kirin 970 processor makes the Mate 10 Pro feel very snappy, and allows the phone to be connected to multiple input accessories as well as an external display for enhanced entertainment, gaming, or presentation capabilities.
We already love the Huawei Mate 9, and can't wait to feel the many improvements of the Mate 10 Pro.
The Huawei Mate 10 Pro will be available beginning February 18, 2018 with a price of $799 (unlocked).
Anker PowerWave 7.5 Stand Wireless Charger
Ever since Apple invented wireless charging (sarcasm), many companies have been fast to produce these convenient power solutions, but Anker's PowerWave 7.5 Stand is the most thoughtful yet.
Featuring two charging coils, your phone can charge in portrait or landscape orientation. A fan built into the base of the stand keeps temperatures in check in order to maintain high-speed charging performance and prolong the phone battery's overall life.
Improved technology on the PowerWave 7.5 Stand means you can leave the case on your phone as it charges, and word on the street is that this wireless stand delivers a full charge a bit faster than Apple's AirPower mat.
NVIDIA 65-inch Big Format Gaming Display (BFGD)
As an avid PC gamer, being able to play in the living room has always been an elusive scenario, especially because I'd have to sacrifice resolution and performance in exchange for seating comfort.
Using a 120Hz 4K HDR display coupled with G-Sync ultra-low latency technology, the BFGD delivers an immersive and smooth gaming experience on a scale that I've never seen before.
And when you need a break from gaming, you can stream your favorite shows and movies using the integrated SHIELD TV, and also control your smart home devices via Google Assistant (included with SHIELD TV).
XPG STORM RGB M.2 2280 SSD Heatsink
Just as 2.5-inch SSDs are becoming the industry standard, a smaller form-factor SSD — M.2 2280 — are quickly stealing the limelight with their versatility and high-speed performance.
But with performance comes heat, which is why XPG has created STORM, an add-on miniature heatsink that features active fan cooling and RGB lighting.
Keeping your SSD cool is the only way to ensure steady performance, and with the XPG STORM, you get the added bonus of LED customization.
Smart lighting was everywhere at CES, but YEELIGHT's Candela goes a step further and uses Bluetooth Mesh technology to connect up to 30,000 Candela units for easy control — operate one Candela, and all the other Candelas will follow suit!
Sleek design, premium materials, and battery operation give you infinite possibilities to set the mood, in your home or at the next twilight picnic. The YEELIGHT app can also be used to program light patterns or simulate candle flicker.
Of course, Candela will eventually support Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT integration, making this a versatile lifestyle lighting device.
Honorable mention: YEELIGHT WiFi-enabled RGB Lightstrip
Aukey Wireless Charger LC Q4
While not as performance-oriented as Anker's PowerPort Wireless 7.5 Stand, Aukey's Wireless Charger gets bonus points in my book for its design.
Featuring a green or blue fabric surface, metal base, and an ultra-slim profile, this charger blends in to any living area — a marked improvement over the black hockey puck design that's so prevalent with other wireless chargers.
You still get the benefits of Quick Charge technology, but in a more pleasing and hip form-factor.
There's no doubt that I missed a bunch of cool stuff at CES 2018, so let me know about some of your favorite products in the comments section below!
