When you consider that Kohl's cardholders are behind an estimated 60% of the store's total sales, it's not exactly surprising that Kohl's intends to keep them collectively happy. Earlier this month, the store debuted the Kohl's Pay app, a smartphone-driven project that allows the store's 25 million cardholders to "put the plastic away." This feature is aimed at creating a better in-store experience by connecting customers' store credit cards to their mobile devices, while combining Kohl's coupons, promotions and rewards for a paperless transaction.
Kohl's Pay Overview
Integrated into the Kohl's app, which has an impressive 14 million downloads to date, Kohl's Pay is reserved exclusively for store charge-card holders (the app itself, however, is available to all shoppers.) Cardholders can use their smartphones to pay via a QR code that's scanned at the register, making each transaction fast and seamless.
The best part? All of your coupon codes, Kohl's Cash and Yes2You rewards are reflected in the app, so you won't have to rummage through your purse looking for your Kohl's Cash earnings or pull out your wallet to swipe your credit card. All you need is your phone, which is just about as convenient as it gets when you're talking about brick-and-mortar shopping.
How to Enroll
Interested in giving it a try? You'll need a Kohl's credit card to get started, and you'll have to download the Kohl's app (in case you haven't already). As the Kohl's website explains, if you have the Kohl's app and the store credit card, you're basically signed up already. All you'll need to do is verify your charge card information on your smartphone. Just open up the Kohl's app and click on "Kohl's Pay," which is located in the dropdown menu on the lefthand side of the screen. From there, you'll confirm your credit card information. The entire enrollment process takes about 10 seconds, and you can then add any rewards or offers to your account.
Back when I first started writing Kohl's articles for Slickdeals, there was literally a flow chart that outlined how to stack coupons and in what specific order they needed to be applied. Oh, how the times have changed. Just open up the store app and add any coupon codes and paper rewards to your mobile wallet before you head to the checkout line. You won't have to worry about having your Kohl's Cash and Yes2You earnings on hand, because Kohl's Pay automatically tracks and redeems your rewards in one simple tap of a button. It's almost simpler than the store's online checkout process. Plus, it's pretty fun to watch your rewards stack up as you go, and you won't have to worry about keeping your paperwork on hand for redemptions and returns. Another paperless bonus? Right now, cardholders can score $10 in Kohl's Cash just by signing up for paperless billing.
Speaking of returning items to the store, Kohl's Pay makes that process a breeze. Every transaction you make using Kohl's Pay is automatically recorded, so you won't have to round up old, crumpled receipts and compare UPC codes to find the specific item you're returning. I'm the absolute worst when it comes to buyer's remorse, so this feature is genius in my eyes.
Ultimately, I think Kohl's Pay is a pretty savvy enticement to get Kohl's shoppers interested in applying for a Kohl's charge. Many of you are big fans of the store's credit card already due to its year-round perks, sitewide savings and lack of an annual fee. (Slickdealer cocoapuffs says, "The Kohl's card is worth getting for the exclusive promo codes alone." While Slickdealer Moooshe raves that it lets you "score some really sweet deals.") Plus, this new feature will offer in-store customers a faster and more efficient checkout experience just in time for those much-anticipated Black Friday deals. I, for one, think this is a smart move on Kohl's part, because the store is really tapping into the demographic that fuels its revenue, while also luring others to join its cardholders group (as if those 30%-off promo codes weren't reason enough).
