Slickdeals 101: How to Easily Switch to Classic or Basic HTML View on Slickdeals

Follow these steps to install the Classic view bookmarklet

We know many of our long-time loyal members still prefer to browse Slickdeals in the original Classic view, so we've created a bookmarklet to allow users to easily switch over to their preferred experience of our site. Follow the steps below to install the bookmarklet.

Please note, your current tab needs to be on Slickdeals for the bookmarklet to function.

Classic View

Chrome

  1. Click on the three-dot menu in the top right > Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager (keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + Shift + O).
  2. Under folders, select the Bookmarks bar folder.
  3. Click the Organize dropdown and select Add page...
  4. Enter a name for the page (e.g. Slickdeals Classic).
  5. Copy and paste the line of code at the bottom of this article into the URL field.

Firefox

  1. Click on the clipboard icon to the right of the search bar field then click Show All Bookmarks (keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + Shift + B).
  2. On the left pane, select the Bookmarks Toolbar.
  3. Right click anywhere in the window and click New Bookmark.
  4. Enter a name for the bookmark (e.g. Slickdeals Classic).
  5. Copy and paste the line of code at the bottom of this article into the Location field.
  6. Click Add to save.
  7. If you do not see the Bookmarks Toolbar displayed, click the clipboard icon again then click Bookmarks Toolbar > View Bookmarks Toolbar.

Internet Explorer

  1. In a new tab, right click anywhere in the menu area then click the Favorites bar option to display the toolbar.
  2. Click the Star icon in the top right then click the Add to Favorites dropdown > select Add to Favorites bar.
  3. Right click the favorite you just added and click Properties.
  4. In the Web Document tab, copy and paste the line of code at the bottom of this article into the URL field.
  5. Click OK to save

Safari

  1. Click View from the main menu > Show Favorites Bar (keyboard shortcut: Shift + Cmd + B).
  2. To add a bookmark, click on the Bookmarks menu option then click Add Bookmark.
  3. Edit the bookmark you just added from the same Bookmarks menu > Edit Bookmarks and right click > Edit Address.
  4. Copy and paste the line of code at the bottom of this article into the Address field.
javascript:(function(){var ts=Math.round((new Date()).getTime()/1000);var s=document.createElement('script');s.setAttribute('id','experienceSwitchBookmarklet');s.setAttribute('data-experience','classic');s.type='text/javascript';s.src='/scripts/306/experienceSwitchBookmarklet.js?_ts='+ts;document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(s)})()

Basic HTML View

For users who would like to switch to the Basic HTML view from their mobile devices, we've also included a bookmarklet for your convenience.

Please note, your current tab needs to be on Slickdeals for the bookmarklet to function.

Chrome for iOS/Android

  1. Create a new bookmark or edit an existing one by clicking on three-dot menu in the top right > Bookmarks.
  2. Give the bookmark a short title (e.g. SDbasic).
  3. Copy and paste the line of code at the bottom of this article into the URL field.
  4. Click Done to save.
  5. Navigate to the Slickdeals homepage.
  6. Click on the address bar, enter the first few characters of the bookmark title until you see it in the dropdown and select it.
  7. The page will reload and should opt you into the Basic HTML experience.
javascript:(function(){var ts=Math.round((new Date()).getTime()/1000);var s=document.createElement('script');s.setAttribute('id','experienceSwitchBookmarklet');s.setAttribute('data-experience','basichtml');s.type='text/javascript';s.src='/scripts/306/experienceSwitchBookmarklet.js?_ts='+ts;document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(s)})()

Didn't work. That url resolves to "new view" in my iPad Pro

And putting this
Quote :
"javascript: (function(){var a=window.location.href;co"
in my iPad Pro bookmark on Safari makes my iPad freeze up and play dead.

A real no go.

I'd like to use a Classic View and bookmark it, What's the correct protocol for iOS/Safari?

Hello,

Can you elaborate on the issue you're having? I tested the bookmarklet on my end in Chrome and it redirected me to the Classic view of a thread.

Hello,

I'll test this out on one of our iPhone test devices and will report back.

EDIT: Will create a ticket for this. I'm having an issue getting this to work on iPhone/Android even when I try to opt into Redesign first.

I know how to fix these issues. STOP forcing people to use the new version and make classic default with the option to view the "useless" update.

I must be stupid, but it didn't work for me until I deleted everything except:

https://slickdeals.net/?utm_medium=bm&utm_source=forceclassic&utm_campaign=forceclassic

The rest is NOT a bookmark as far as I know.

Using Firefox.
