SmartBargains Honor Price Mistake on Free $10 Coupon

This is usually not the outcome we see on price mistake deals!

SmartBargains had a deal for $10 off $10 last Friday, which gave you any item below $10 for free. The deal was supposed to be $10 off $50 or more and for new customers only, but it worked for anybody and with no order minimum. Today, the CEO of SmartBargains announced that they will honor up to five orders per user, despite taking a significant loss while doing so.

Most of the time, going viral is something websites and businesses would welcome with open arms. Having one of your deals go viral on Slickdeals due to a price mistake, however, can only mean one of two things. It's either going to cost you, or a lot of Slickdealers are going to get disappointing cancelation emails. Luckily for us, SmartBargains decided to graciously honor their mistake over the weekend to the surprise of many. Unless you're the person who placed 95 orders (seriously?), you'll probably be pleased to see your orders go through.

We see our fair share of price mistakes, but most of the time they are not honored if the discrepancy between the posted deal and what the merchant meant to post is too big (remember the deal for $200 Best Buy gift cards for $15 on Prime Day?). This is definitely a nice exception to that rule and something Slickdealers will appreciate.

The full announcement from SmartBargains' CEO, David Block, can be read below.

Dear valued Slickdeals customer -

As the SmartBargains.com CEO, my team and I were elated when we saw we made another front page post - even after delivering amazing deals over the past 15+ years, it never gets old.  While we’re sure this was a great deal for customers, it was inadvertent, and we took a big loss selling so many items so far under cost and essentially, merchandise for free. However, it was our mistake to ensure there was a minimum order amount in place to qualify for the WELCOME10 discount. Some of you placed over 95 orders - I didn't think people could type fast!  We will be honoring up to the first 5 orders per customer that took place last night on SmartBargains.com during our mess up.   We apologize to anyone that was confused and/or frustrated during our little hiccup and we hope that you continue to shop and spread the word about the amazing deals at SmartBargains.com.  We also wish you and your families very happy and safe holidays. Thank you for allowing us to serve you.  Lastly, please make sure you send some love to "Shorted"  for posting such an incredible bargain!

Warmest regards,

David Block

Mr. CEO of SmartBargain is faking. This is only to attract people by telling and writing a lie. As per Mr. CEO "We will be honoring up to the first 5 orders per customer". This is lie. I ordered 4 orders and they cancelled 3 of them. I think they are only delivering those order which they get for cheap or in which they dont have any loss. Didn't like the deal at all and wasted lots of time in order to select different items.

So you're implying that there's money to be made by giving things away for free? Depending on the product, even $10 off of $20 can result in a loss. Price mistakes are always very YMMV, and even receiving one free order is essentially a gift, if not at least a goodwill gesture. They are NOT legally obligated to honor any pricing mistakes, and could rightfully cancel EVERY order with that coupon.

Count yourself lucky and move along.

I think you are absolutely right. I dont have to write like that. I dnt know how to remove my old comment. Atleast they gave me one item for a very good price (almost FREE with shipping). Thanks to SmartBargains.com and my apologies for what I wrote. Because every time when you select and order online there are some emotions with the purchase and i was very excited when i read that message that i am going to get my all orders for almost FREE.

But a big THANKS to SmartBargains.com for giving some of the orders for almost free of cost with shipping. Really appreciate for that.

Wow. What a mea culpa. Few people are able to admit that they've made a mistake so publicly. I'm impressed. You're a good example for the rest of the internet.

I got on this deal. I ordered the Zebra Zanny Slippers for my daughter. Was waiting for a cancellation email as I knew it was a mistake. Never got an order confirmation or anything, but within a week they arrived at the door. I was ecstatic. I didnt pay any shipping or anything. Thanks smartbargains.

I also got a cancellation email. I only created one account and made one order. Doesn't seem like it should have been canceled according to the CEO's statement. Not sure if it's worth calling them up to demand my free item, lol. That seems greedy. Some clarification would be appreciated though.
