To celebrate the arrival of Season 2 of The Mandalorian, Google has released a new augmented reality app that lets you project life-size versions of characters from the hit Star Wars show into the real world.
We know that normally, you might think that pretending you have virtual Star Wars characters in your kitchen is just a little bit too geeky, but then again this might be the closest you’ve been to having friends over this year. That’s okay; we’re all a bit lonely.
The Mandalorian AR Experience places you in the role of a bounty hunter charged with tracking down lead protagonist Din Djarin and the Child (aka Baby Yoda, but don’t call him that in front of a Star Wars purist).
Google says you’ll interact with a cast of highly detailed 3D characters, projected realistically into your home thanks to ARCore, its fancy augmented reality tech, and the use of your smartphone camera. Google says it will be expanding the experience with five content updates releasing weekly.
The Mandalorian AR Experience is free to download via the Google Play store now, but is only available for 5G Google Pixel and select 5G Android phones.
