Fidelity AMEX credit card 2% cash back on all purchases

+18 47093 Views 120 Comments

I thought this seemed like a pretty good deal...

I was in the market for cashback credit card and this one never came up in any discussions or any of the websites that do credit card reviews. A friend of mine who has a Fidelity Investment account recommended it to me.

Fidelity Amex credit card with 2% cashback on all purchases. No fees, no cashback limit.

Only minor snag is that you must have a Fidelity brokerage account or a mySmart cash account. As far as I can tell there are no fees associated with opening or maintaining an account and there is no minimum account balance. The 2% cashback on purchases will be deposited directly into your Fidelity account.

*Alternatively you can wait until you accrew $250 in cashback dollars and have a check issued and mailed directly to your home, so a Fidelity account is not mandatory.

Best deal for cash back on purchases, but it goes straight into an IRA retirement or 529-college fund. If you try pulling the funds before you retire or kid goes to college, they charge a big percentage, making this not that great of a deal. I may consider this. Thanks.

Daan

The funds can go into any Fidelity account, not just IRA's or 529's. Just open a brokerage account and the money will be transferred into your brokerage account, and from there you can do whatever you want with it - buy stock, funds, bonds, or get the much-needed CASH via a transfer to your bank account.

ponting

Brokerage account.....that's the part which scares me a lot. If you pull money from brokerage account is that shown as profit? If so you're liable for tax. If they give 2% cash back let them give it directly rather than opening a brokerage account, IRA account and link you checking account to another credit card account to your savings account in another bank. I like Chase freedom or discover where you don't have to deal with chain of accounts and harsher rules to get your cash back.

fyu

interesting point. anybody else have an opinion on this?

liulinglll

most brokerage accounts (including fido) are functional same as regular checking account, besides it has state muni fund as core account, which is TAX FREE!

GiveMeDeals

The cash contributed is not taxable.

If you do have a brokerage/trading account, it is deposited into your 'core' or cash account to be used for investing. If you have it deposited directly into a mutual fund account, it increases your cost basis on that investment and you would have capital gains or losses the same way you would as if you had made the contribution.

spam

The definiton of profit is when you sell stock or bond, ETF etc for more than what you bought it for. I don't think withdrawing money would constitue as profit..

g1200

Missed the any part. All it says is "virtually any Fidelity account" on their website.

Can my wife open the car in her name and connect it to my Fidelity a/c?

GiveMeDeals

"All Fidelity non-retirement, Fidelity IRA and Fidelity-managed 529 Plan accounts that accept Automated Clearing House ("ACH") deposits are eligible for a rewards deposit. If you intend to deposit points in an eligible Account, it is your responsibility to ensure that the account is one for which contributions on your behalf can be accepted and that, under applicable tax law, you are eligible to make contributions to that account for the year that the deposit is made. Refer to the applicable Fidelity account Customer Agreement, Custodial Agreement or Participation Agreement for information on the terms and conditions of the Fidelity account."

SegaRob

This card is old as heck. Yes, it is a very good card. Most people preferred the now defunct Schwab visa card since visa is accepted in more places than AmEx. But now since that card is not available to new customers, this fidelity card is probably the best card on the market for baseline cashback.

BombaySensei

this. I have the schwab/FIA card and it's really easy. You don't have to wait to hit a certain threshold to redeem for cashback, it's automatically deposited at the end of the month. It's not shown as profit or anything, since CC rewards of any kind (cash, miles, points) are not taxable (yet, I'm sure that will eventually change).

ymarker

Fidelity brokerage account can function as a regular checking account. Same with schwab. There are massive threads on both at fw.

Slicker

I have this card and schwab 2% card. Both managed by FIA card services. I get a ACH deposit every month in my checking account.

woodygg

ah... figured there was a catch at that %.

Best credit card rewards

Need some advice on best credit card rewards card, looking to get a new everyday use card.

1. Prefer a card with no annual fee, and non-ymmv like the amex Gold Premier/biz (https://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3095414)
2. I know people say the best rewards are for airfares, but I don't fly very often so I don't think that would be worth while for me, but I'm open to listen.

Current cards I'm aware of, thinking of getting in order.

1. citi forward (http://www.citiforward.com) upto 5pt/$1 some gc redeemable at 5% (the only ones I'd really shop at without making a special trip would be amazon/walmart, and they appear to come and go, walmart is listed now, amazon is not)
2. amazon cc (http://www.amazon.com/gp/cobrandcard/marketing.html) $30 gc for signing up and 3% on amazon purchases, 2% at Gas Stations, Restaurants and Drugstores, 1% everywhere else. (i shop at amazon more then any other store probably)
3. amex Blue Cash everyday (http://www201.americanexpress.com/getthecard/learn-about/BlueCash-Everyday) 3% supermarkets, 2% gas, department stores, 1% everywhere else.
4. fidelity rewards amex (http://personal.fidelity.com/products/checking/content/amex_rewards_card.shtml) flat 2% on everything

10K or 15K extra points for recent Chase Freedom Card -Total $300 Cashback (https://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3096740)

shar88

Ya that card placed #1 for me if I kept the card for 2 years or less. I'm just not sure I want to open up all these extra lines of credit and then cancel them a few years later just to save a few bucks.

shar88

Interesting that I didn't see the citi forward card in the list on nerdwallet, not surprised I didn't see the amazon card tho.

EDIT: Guess I have to select all rewards cards instead of just cash rewards.

ArseneWenger

I was in the same boat and I got a Chase Freedom Visa card. Search Chase in the search bar and you will find a highly rated thread about the $200 cash back in 3 months when you spend $500 deal they have going on. No annual fee and you don't want to get an American Express, many places don't accept those. Overall, the Chase Freedom has 1% cash back forever with no limit, however every quarter, they give you 5% cash back (next quarter is gas, hotel, groceries). If you're are looking for a straight up cash back card accepted everywhere I don't think you can beat this one, plus the $200 free bucks. Like I said, find the thread for it here on SlickDeals, it's fairly recent. Citi Visa cards I believe cap their 1% cash back on a per year basis.

Chase frequently has discounted gift cards that you can use your points on, instead of redeeming them for cash back.

Edit: There's the thread.

2% CB on unrestricted travel + 25K Miles Signup - Discover Escape Credit Card

+1 2642 Views 1 Comments

Was doing my homework on a new CC and deciding between http://personal.fidelity.com/products/checking/content/amex_rewards_card.shtml?showcard=college (2% CB amex)

and the Discover Escape Credit Card
http://www.discovercard.com/escape/
(non referral link, of course)

which based on acceptability over amex seems to be a perfect complement to my rotating 5% CB card.

details:
-2 miles / dollar
-unrestricted travel, no blackouts (just buy ticket with the card)
-25K Bonus miles (1K/mo for first 25 mo)
-$60 annual fee (offset first 4 years by bonus miles)
-no expiration on points

pretty complete review: http://creditcardforum.com/discover-diners-club/757-escape-discover-card-scam.html

did a search on SD but found no posts. enjoy!

$50 Sign Up Bonus Fidelity American Express 2% Rewards Card for spending $2500 (YMMV)

0 7475 Views 7 Comments

First Deal I've posted on SD, so hopefully I'm doing this right. After all the good things I've seen on credit cards here, I wanted to see if I could contribute.

I know this isn't the best bonus for signing up a new credit card, but considering that the Amex Fidelity has 2% cash back and rarely provides sign up bonuses, I thought this was worth posting. This is probably YMMV, but it didn't take much to get the bonus.

I have been following all of the discussions surrounding the FIA Fidelity American Express 2% rewards card, and decided to apply for a card. I had some questions on the card, so I called them up at 866-598-4971 to inquire.

The woman I spoke with answered my questions, and I told her I would apply online later. She then indicated that if I were to apply today, that I could get a $50 statement credit once I had spent $2500. She stated there was no time line within to spend the $2500, and that the spending could occur over multiple statements.

I referenced "VAA457" to the operator when I spoke to her on the phone.

More information on the Fidelity® Investment Rewards® American Express® card can be found at:
http://personal.fidelity.com/products/checking/content/amex_rewards_card.shtml

She offered this bonus prior to running any kind of a credit check, so it didn't seem to be tied to any credit score, etc.

If you were planning on getting the card, I guess its a nice bonus. But for the purposes of card churning, not really worth it at all.

49studebaker

Is it possible to get this $50 bonus if a person applies online?

FindSDeals

I tried to get this bonus too but 2 different CS people said there are no "$50 signup bonus". I think maybe the CS quoted you what the cashback program gives you (that you get $50 after spending $2500 or 2% of $2500 in purchases), not that you will get a one-time $50 bonus for signing up for the Amex card.

SprintBoiler

I'm sorry to hear you had difficulty. The CS rep specifically indicated to me that it would be a statement credit of $50, not the points which then get converted to a linked Fidelity account.

That being said, it wouldn't be the first time a CS rep for a credit card led someone astray. Once I hit my $2500 on my statement, I'll update the post to reflect what happens.

lanb

Any new signup bonuses for this card ?

Currently, this appears to be the best cashback card.

Great price. Does it include state efile?

AliveInTucson

Doesnt look like it....see no indication that it does so would bet no ;-)

reader2580

Federal only. No state in this version at all. There is always an extra charge to efile state taxes with the version that includes state taxes, but Federal efile is included at no charge.

I simply mail my state taxes as I usually owe them less than $100. I have no interest in paying $19.95 to efile state taxes.

unlimitedx

Do you use any software to compute the state taxes?

brahmos

Update the information as per your request. Please feel free to update the information.

I use At Home Deluxe + State to do my state taxes. I just print out the paper forms for my state taxes and mail them in instead of paying $19.95 to efile.

deluxe+state = federal+efile included; state software included but no state efile

I am a CPA and I do not care if you use these products. But, please do not go to HR Block or any of the other "sit down" places. They charge far too much for no service.

I can't tell you how many clients I have seen who have paid MORE at HR Block/etc retail location than it would have cost them to come to me or any of the other local CPAs that I know personally.

Can anyone confirm the AAFES price? I'm seeing $59.95 with a $30 rebate if you buy a version of Quicken

This wd be FP deal.

don't these usually drop even more as tax time comes?

Waiting for the 1 cent deal like last year.

Gameross

This stuff any good?

Care to elaborate?? When was this deal? From whom? etc

andigomeep

Do none of them include state efiling for free?

moonpoco

I believe your correct, if you're willing to wait a closer to tax day you will find this cheaper. But for anyone that likes to get taxes done sooner than later - this is a good price. I bought this same software last year at the same time and paid $22.49 that time and the year before that paid $32.00.

Here's a potential SD if someone is no hurry in filing - file for a tax extension, wait until tax day passes, then buy this software for almost free. :)

cipperob

is premium worth the extra money if your taxes are fairly simple and straightforward?

Best reward card for spending $600k per year?

0 7264 Views 50 Comments

We average about $600,000 per year in spending, currently using a Chase cash back getting 1%, which is about $500 a month.

The purchases are not gas or groceries, so those cards that offer 5% on up to $500 of spending until x month are not preferred. Prefer having just 1 card to maximize reward.

I'm totally happy with getting an extra 6k per year, but figured I'd ask if anyone knows!

I checked some threads, but most seem to recommend juggling the cards based on what the purchase is.

The only one I know of that seems better is a Fidelity Amex card that gives you 1.5 or 2% into a retirement account. Link here https://www.fidelity.com/cash-management/american-express-cards

Anyone have any recommendations?

vaultaddict

I'd recommend tightening up the budget.

Linnx

With useless responses like that, I can see why your post count is so high. I think it is more useful if you choose quality posts, rather than quantity. That's my advice for you.

BrianFX

2% cash back Fidelity Amex.

kyotuosa

1.5 mile everything United Mileage Plus Club. Did AMEX black card invited you yet? lol

Linnx

I'll check that out. Thanks !

No invite from AMEX. 5k invitation fee, and 2500 annual fee. Seems good for those who do a ton of traveling, but not much travel for me!

casdcasd

We average about $60 per year in spending

robertw477

I spend far more than that and I havent got a Black invite. Many yrs ago I think I could have gotten that card. Basically that card is a ripoff and it stinks by the way. A standard AMEX plat has many of those benefits for a fraction of the 2500 cost and initial fee of several thousand the first yr. That program is not worth it or I would have the card right now.

Rob

Fidelity is into a cash account and you said its retirement. It is not unless you want to move that money into retirement acct. there is an AMEX card and a Mastercard product

Rob

robertw477

Starwood Amex you can average 2-3% or more if you work the program properly. The redemption charts are pretty fair also. If you dont travel much stick to the cashback stuff. One more card is the Sams Club discover 2% card. You must be a sams plus member. The first 25K or so is at 1.5%. There is a max cashback. You can get the personal or business card. They only pay the reward check every Feb once per yr.

bonkman

seriously? I got an AMEX black invite two years ago and I spend roughly 4% of what you claim to.

Isn't the Venture Rewards card from CapOne (the one you see advertised with Baldwin and the vikings) 2% with unlimited rewards?

drsketch

I get 2% on my USAA amex

kyotuosa

I was just joking but if you actually want it then you need the AMEX Plat. card first and start charging that.

Using the Centurion will get you unwritten benefit such as superior treatment from practically anywhere you go club, restaurant, hotel, etc...
Since not many people has it and basically put u in the high roller stats as they might get huge tip.

kyotuosa

Jw does the venture reward transfer to airline miles or you can only use it to purchase airline tickets through Cap One reward site? Reward mileage is alot better than pts imo.

If you do travel the tri-fecta should be Chase Sapphire preferred, Freedom, with the airline card (Delta, United, Southwest, AA, watever).

bonkman

i honestly have no idea. i dont have one. probably says on the website

oakfan52

You could always open a chase checking account to make it 1.1% + you get $.10/transaction bonus. I don't spend nearly that much but for instance last month I got 84.99 in CB from chase and $15 of that was due to my chase checking account bonuses.

kyotuosa

Oh right, there's that...I think Chase Ink Card has something better than but not sure.

If you have BoA account with Plat. Priviledge (50k combined balance saving, cd, investment, checking, etc). Then you get the Plat. Priviledge card with no annual fee
1% everything, 2% Grocery, 3% gas. + 50% extra deposit back to checking. If you don't maintain the status $75 annual fee.

So...1.5%, 3%, 4.5% in cash....not bad imo. I still say mileage/hotel reward is better even if you only travel once out of country/yr.

Open or add to a Fidelity IRA and get up to $2,500

+1 800 Views 0 Comments

Fidelity is offering a bonus based on what you add or open an account with -

For a limited time only, earn up to a $2500 deposit bonus when you open and fund a Fidelity IRA or brokerage account or add new money to an existing one.

Deposit Amount $50,000+ $100,000+ $250,000+ $500,000+ $1,000,000+
Deposit Bonus Earned $200 $300 $600 $1200 $2500

I was looking to move my rolled over and converted Roth IRAs to them anyway so it is worth the effort for me. Although I won't cash in the on the $2.5k; at least I'll get a few hundred for my effort.

Terms state that they add everything you add within the first 60 days after opening the account. So if you are moving funds from several sources as I am the sum total is what the bonus will be based on.

It's nearly 3 years old, and I never would have seen it otherwise. I fail to see the issue...

Can anyone who already have this account tell me if this account is managed from american express website for getting all the details of the transactions etc.

SinisterX2

no it's fiacardservices.com crappy interface

folsom

Then how is this american express comes into picture?

sensazn

I'm guessing no amex sync options?

wlin1998

Because this is an AMEX card.

leno

There is. you can sync it through Facebook, twitter.

fyu

It's fia which is also boa. So the cs sucks.

sedakill

I agree FIA is horrible. CS is among the worst they are very rude.

KB-Smoker

I use this card as a back up to my other 5% cards. Since it hard to find a 2% cash back everywhere card. As other say the website is terrible to use and it not set up well at all.

Anyone signing up here is the site for auto pay https://autopay.fiacardservices.com/

Wow that awesome.

DealsAllTheWay

many people complaining about their cust service but who cares...charge what you need to charge each month..pay your balance in full...and collect the rewards...

lexluthor

I've never had trouble with FIA service. Yes, the card is eligible for Amex Sync offers.

moshassuk

Great card for easy straight up 2% cash back. Been using it as a replacement to the old schwab visa (RIP). One downside is that I think it charges foreign transaction fees.

KB-Smoker

Yeah i didnt have any trouble with their CS. I had to call to get that site for autopay.

$20 off Turbotax Download or Online

--2 2581 Views 6 Comments

Couldn't find this posted--hopefully not a repost:

https://www.fidelity.com/taxes/turbotax-discount/overview

The pricing this gives me is $10 - $20 cheaper than the Amazon or Intuit site. I'm guessing it does not include the State download, but it DOES let me use the online version which I prefer to the download version so I can check or update it from home or work. It does not include the 10% discount on Amazon Gift Card purchases.

And I'm not sure if the free state download option on Amazon includes the state efile. They seem to really squeeze every dime out of you they can.

You can be a Fidelity customer or just a visitor of their website.

WalterWiedeman

Scam..

agthang

Its not so much a scam, as not a good deal at all since it doesn't include State. When you add state (about $37) it actually ends up costing a lot more than any other currently available options.

Pirin

This is wonderful! Who gives a rats about state? I file my state for free through the state website. I also prefer the online version, so this is better than any other deal posted for TurboTax this tax season.

I love how people just jump on the bandwagon and TD this thread, even though most of them will not be filing through TurboTax. This thread is about the deal on the software, not on the software itself (or their new business/pricing model).

doddsjr653

I've used the Fidelity discount for the past two or three years. My state has its own e-file program so I don't care about paying Intuit for the privilege.

gammann

The 5% Amazone GC offer does apply provided you use Deluxe or above.

https://turbotax.intuit.com/modals/amazon-exclusive/

teaberry

+8 12924 Views 86 Comments

I have received many commission free trades from Fidelity since opening an account there about two years ago. I was looking through my account a few days back, and noticed this popped up again for existing accounts. Added money 2 days ago, and noticed the 200 free trades in my account today at the open. At 7.95 per trade, that's almost $1600 in savings for an active trader.

I know this isn't a deal for over 99.99% of SDers, yet thought I would share for the few who are interested. Just think, successful investing / trading will give you more to spend on all the slickdeals! :D

After clicking link below, look for this promo on right side of page.

Similar deal on Fidelity homepage for new accounts if interested.

*Get 200 commission-free trades for 90 days when you deposit $50,000 into a new or existing Fidelity IRA or brokerage account. Includes access to our Active Trader Pro PlatformsSM.

THis is not a new offer. It's existed forever.

freshsqueezed

Yes, but in the past they will not give you the free trades more than once for the same promotion.... Not without negotiation at least! ;) This time was automatic.

Commentary

Unless one wants to be at Fidelity, this is not a great deal. The 200 free trades has to be within 90 days. For 50k, one can get 30 free trades a month at Merrill:

http://www.merrilledge.com/pricing

likeminas

Fidelity ETFs trade for free as long as you keep them for more than 30 days.

freshsqueezed

If you are not an active trader and don't care about the trading platform and tools, Merrill is fine (That's approx $210 per month savings if you use all 30). You are limited as to what you can trade at ML, so inquire before you open an account.

Never thought I would ever hear someone say $1600 savings is not a great deal!

Tyroneology

Just now started to get into trading but if you haven't heard of it the new RobinHood app allows 100% commission free trading..

freshsqueezed

Everyone loves the sound of free! Other firms have tried this and failed (and those firms at least had experienced management with a great deal of knowledge in the industry). With no viable business plan, these 2 bozos will fail too. :shake:

Commentary

Most will find it more useful to do 360 trades over a year versus 200 trades over 90 days. Most will also find savings $2500+ yearly without any additional funds contribution better than one time saving $1600 over 90 days.

Also, Merrill's top offer is 100 free trades monthly. So if you are truly active and have a reasonable size account, you can easily get 1200 free trades annually. On top of that, you can get free bank accounts as well as safe deposit box and some other "stuff".

Regarding the active trading platform, Merrill also have one. I am not sure if better than Fidelity. Have not use either one in a long time. But I know Merrill also offers level 2 quotes with their advance platform.

freshsqueezed

Will look into that Merrill promotion with 100 free trades monthly. Thanks for adding something to the discussion here.

slick_deal_now

Is the 30 free trade every month? or just for the first 3 month? because this is what i found on their site, under the 600 dollar cash bonus offer.

"$0 trades begin within 5 business days of account opening and must be used within 90 calendar days; up to 300 trades per account. $0 trades are only applicable in the new account and are limited to online equity and ETF trades. Standard commission rates apply to trades in excess of the 300-trade limit or after 90 days. "

Woz2000

I am allowed 1 free trade offer per year. Not sure if this is the same for everyone.

My free trades offers usually don't expiry for 1 year.

Woz2000

Certain companies like Robinhood and Scotttrade sell your oder flow. This means you will never get better pricing and sometimes if you have an order in to buy at the bid or sell at ask, it will take a long time to execute or never (the market makers try to make a profit by trading ahead of you).

aqan

Do you get reimbursed if you sell after 30 days ?
Any link to the policy?

freshsqueezed

I don't currently have a Merrill account, was just responding to someone else who recommended it as a better deal for some with light trading activity.

But, from reading the details it appears that you would get 30 free trades each month (use them during that month or lose them). Getting my info from the link below. If someone else here knows for sure, please chime in. Thanks.

http://www.merrilledge.com/zero-dollar-trades

freshsqueezed

Excellent point. I read that Robinhood's business plan to offset the cost of free trades fell through on this issue, as their clearing firm is entitled to those profits for order flow. The current plan for Robinhood now is to make money from earning interest on customer free cash balances (which we all know is near zero interest rates), and charging customers interest on margin accounts. Considering their target audience, that will net close to nothing as well.

As for Scottrade, I left them years ago because of their execution prices. I even won a settlement against them.

Fidelity Investments - up to 10% IRA match for 3 years

--2 2190 Views 5 Comments

I saw the info as an ad when I logged into Mint. Seems like a site-wide thing (i.e. not targeted):

https://www.fidelity.com/about-fidelity/individual-investing/fidelity-introduces-ira-match

10% match for three years, and from the ad I got, they would even match the 2014 IRA contribution if you were to make it in the next week or so.

(This was the text of my Mint ad: "Heard of a 401(k) match? Fidelity has now introduced a match for your IRA. Move your IRA to Fidelity and they'll match up to 10% of your contributions for 3 years. That's a boost of up to $1950. Don't forget to make your 2014 IRA contribution by April 15. Click for full offer details.")

You have to move an IRA account to Fidelity (new or existing customers) and the percent they give you is based on the size of the IRA. According to the info page:
$10,000 - 1%
$50,000 - 1.5%
$100,000 - 2.5%
$250,000 - 5%
$500,000 - 10%

So, if you were to transfer a $500,000 IRA account over, and make $5,500 contributions for the next three years, you are looking at $1,650.

The match only qualifies for the annual contribution; it does not apply to a contribution as a result of a 401k rollover.

From the terms, it seems the $1,950 is the "max" amount possible. It is 3 years, or $1,950, whichever comes first. I suppose the way you would get more than the $1,650 is if you make the contribution on your 2014 tax year within the next week, such that over the next 3 years you are looking at matches on your 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 returns.

kaiotes

it's misleading advertising 1650 in matching on a balance of > 500k is not 10% it is 0.33% of overall balance.....
Unless your are like 40 or Mitt Romney, it'd be hard to have a half a mil retirement balance for those who are just starting out....

luffy21

With half a mil if you invest that yourself you can possible gain more that in a year.

1. You will earn 2 points per dollar in net purchases (purchases minus credits and returns) that you charge. Credits, returns, adjustments, and certain transactions do not earn points. The 2% rewards value applies only to points redeemed for a deposit into an eligible Fidelity account. The redemption value is different if you choose to redeem your points for other rewards such as travel options, merchandise, gift cards, and/or a statement credit. Other restrictions apply. Full details appear in the Program Rules new card customers receive with their card. Establishment or ownership of a Fidelity account or other relationship with Fidelity Investments is not required to obtain a card or to be eligible to use points to obtain any rewards offered under the program other than Fidelity Rewards.

Highlighted a key statement.

madcowdisease

Bleh, no signup bonus.

javastone

Not as good as Citi Double Cash. You can request a check for the cash back, not necessary to deposit to Citi checking account.

dmikester10

This is awesome! I was contemplating the older Fidelity 2% card but was on the fence because it was AMEX which isn't as widely accepted. But now that they have a 2% Visa, I might have to jump on this. Much easier than trying to figure out which card to use at gas station, grocery store, restaurant, etc. I will still use some of those for 5% though. But, yeah, I do wish it had a signup bonus.

megakimcheelove

A true SD'er never uses a sub-optimal credit card on a category purchase (e./g. grocery, department store, etc), even if it means holding a dozen cards!

oceanlake

All the old Fidelity 2% Amex cards are being automatically converted to this card.

ciswt

source?

boingyman

Too bad I don't have investments through Fidelity, but the Citi Double Cash is more flexible anyways.

ciswt

afaik the citi 2xcash only comes in mastercard flavor (which is mostly irrelevant anywhere besides costco and at the olympics.)
as far as cashing out (assuming that this will work the same as the amex did) you can transfer the money out of your fidelity account electronically. imo that's easier than depositing a check, but it's really a matter of personal preference i suppose.

qkumbr

Amen!

erishun

Mastercard is irrelevant? I don't know of very many places that don't take Mastercard.

I mean, Amex and Discover, sure. A lot of places don't take those... but Mastercard? Really?

haserfauld

Serve holders must be pissed.

I almost got this card last month, too. Glad I didn't waste my time.

edearauj

Agreed. I thought a lot of payment services bundle visa/MasterCard for merchants anyway.

Nattefrost

No sign up bonus no go. Unless Someone tells me otherwise.

hades321

I am guessing he meant the difference between Visa and Mastercard is irrelevant (except at Costco and Olympics where only Visa is accepted)

TurboTax Premier free for some Fidelity customers (Premier Services, Active Traders, Private Client), YMMV

+46 40157 Views 85 Comments

I'm surprised this isn't posted here. Certain Fidelity customers are eligible to receive a free copy of TurboTax Premier. As best I can figure from posts elsewhere, it seems to be Premium Services (>$250k) customers who are also Active Traders (see https://www.fidelity.com/trading/active-trader-trading-service-levels for a chart) or Private Client Group customers (> $1m in assets at Fidelity), but not everyone seems to get it. To see if you have the offer, login to your account and go to the Summary page if it's not your default (Accounts & Trade -> Portfolio). If you are eligible, you will see a box titled "Get TurboTax® Online Premier free" on the right side of the page with a link to go to the TurboTax site to "purchase" (see the attached image to see what it looks like). You can either get the online version, or look for "Download - Install TurboTax software on your computer. See Products" and you can get the downloadable version of Premier for free. You can get Windows or Mac, or both (just go in a second time). if you need Home & Business, there is no discount online but once you install Premier, you can upgrade for only $10.

If you don't qualify for the free copy, there is a $20 off offer, but I don't think that is worth posting about here.

If you are a good Fidelity customer and do not have the free offer, some people have reported contacting their rep and being given an account credit after buying it on their own. YMMV on that.

Community Wiki

On my summary page:
Clicked through to TurboTax, and it has both online and download links. Clicked "See Products" in the download section and it showed Premier for free (others for $10-$20 off).

Fed download and 5 e-files.
State download included, but state e-file not included.

Still a great deal!

Online or downloadable?

MisterBill

"You can either get the online version, or look for "Download - Install TurboTax software on your computer. See Products" and you can get the downloadable version of Premier for free."

Teletubbie

I was glad to find it free in my online account. I was not aware of this deal, until you posted. I always see every year about free Turbotax for State Farm customers but Fidelity never offered free but just give some discount. This is a great deal. Thanks OP! Repped.

khoj

No go for me, don't see TurboTax banner anywhere in my account :-(

Enkur

Looks like nothing for netbenefits (401K customers)

MisterBill

Well the State Farm deal isn't happening this year (there is a separate thread, which is what prompted me to post this one). And Fidelity has offered it in the past (there are old threads here), but not everyone qualified (like me). I was very pleased to find that I got it this year.

Anyway, glad to hear that you got it.

MisterBill

You need to be more than Netbenefits. You need to have some significant amount of regular money on the retail side.

shandril

That must be it because both me and DH have over $1M on our 403b accounts there but not quite as much in IRA accounts and no free offers.

frugalbrutus

thank you - reps

MisterBill

When you look at your Fidelity statement does it says "Private Client Group"? Do you have a local rep that you deal with?

ViDeOmAnCiNi

On the Summary page there is also a link for "Your 2016 Tax Information" which takes you to a page where you can save $20 on TT. Probably not as good as Costco deals but good for anyone w/o Costco membership I suppose. Just an FYI, not a true deal.

-v

superflyonwall

Worked for me...Thanks for posting this!

katthibabu

Do you get the Desktop version free too at Fidelity? I have more than 500 trades and that makes the online version of TT really slow. I can transfer my account to Fid from TD to get this deal if they give Desktop version for free.

roadrunnercj

Mine says PCG and I just got the $20 off. Sort of ticks me off that after 40 years with Fidelity and a pretty large account .... I am not getting better targeted offers.

Fidelity rewards card -- earn 1% extra for $50+ spending (Jun-July) -- YMMV

+1 2120 Views 9 Comments

Got an email on this, may be targeted:

As a valued Fidelity® Rewards Visa Signature® Cardmember, you’re eligible to earn up to an additional 2,000 bonus points!¹ It’s simple. Spend a minimum of $50 from June 1 through July 31, 2017, and net purchases over $50 will earn an additional bonus point per dollar spent (up to 2,000 bonus points) redeemable for cash back into an eligible Fidelity account!² Be sure to enroll in the offer by June 30.

In my understanding, spending $2050 in between Jun-July, will earn 6100 pts which is equivalent to $61. And that is the max one can earn.

Looks like they're sending out targeted offers. My offer's spending threshold is significantly different!

ciswt

mine is also different. certainly it's based on your normal spending with the card.

perhaps we all should create new accounts and alternate spending on them to ensure the lowest tier in the future : )

mma123

Hmm, I typically don't use mine. Last time, I used, was for their Amazon offer. This used to be my go to card like a year back, but I moved on with Citi double cash back card. I moved due to their poor customer service.

Pi.314

i have 2 cards. both are 2000 point bonus.
one is 1 point for each dollar on anything over $100, up to 2k pts.
other is over $1500 :o :(

dinotle

net over 4500 offer is laughable

kensteele

perhaps they are testing a combination of spending thresholds to see what works best for a certain set of folks. maybe they come back with we should offer 2 tiers in the future: $500 and $1000. maybe they will learn the $4500 is a non-starter. maybe they will learn there's no need to go as low as $50 since even people with $200 will still bite. i'm not happy with my offer either but i'm still a fidelity fan and will go back to them after my happy discover days are over and done....early next year. ;)

rjm08

After doing one of these a few months ago, this time, I only get the extra 1% if I spend over $900. And there is almost no chance that I spend that much. So I didn't even activate it this time.

I think they base these deals on your average spending and mine was increased because I used it to overpay on my power bill. (2.25 fee for paying $600) At 3%, that's a gain of $15.82. Plus, you don't have to pay your power bill again for 4-5 months.

bradyohio

Question... received an offer to spend $1700 by Aug 1 - Sept 30

I bought a new car July 31 and put $2500 on the Fidelity card and enrolled in the promo yesterday, August 1. The trans is still pending. I'm guessing even when it does post it'll be 7/31 and SOL?

Pi.314

yes sol.
the post date will be 7/31

State software (one) is included but e-file is not free unless you're in NY, where it is free by law.

Do you see Premium Services or Private Client Group when you login (top right corner) or on you statement? If you don't see the offer online, you may be able to get reimbursed for your purchase. Check with your rep.

BTW the offer will NOT be on the same page as the $20 discount offer. You need to look on your Summary page.

GraySquirrel

Didn't have it on my account, but wife has it on hers. Thanks, OP!

I tried to download Premier this evening via the Fidelity link, but the turbotax website wanted me to pay $99 for it. I guess I'll try again tomorrow.

MisterBill

Are you saying you have the free offer on your Fidelity page but when you got to TT it wanted $99? That's odd, have not heard of that happening. Are you blocking cookies or something like that?

Last year I'll need TurboTax. New tax reform makes figuring out your taxes super simple.

MisterBill

Ha ha ha ha! That's funny! If anything, you'll need it more to figure out how to get the promised reduction in taxes that's just BS.

MisterBill

Not that difficult. As I said in the OP -- To see if you have the offer, login to your account and go to the Summary page if it's not your default (Accounts & Trade -> Portfolio).

opello

Where are the better than $20 off offers?

Sorry, it is *buried* on the bottom of my login page. Wouldn't have found it unless looking for it :wave2: The *ahem* 'Accounts & Trade -> Portfolio' reference has the same problem :applause:

lorcha

Exactly. I had the free offer, but when I tried to download the CD, it wanted $99 even though on the TT page it said $0. I don't block cookies, but I do have adblock.

I'm not seeing that part (but will re-check)... I did see this, though:

dealspossible

It does outline that no account minimums are required for either account. On the FAQ at the bottom. But I don't mind keep my $200 in the account to be safe a $100 return is great.

"No, there are zero account minimums required for either account."

Does Fidelity offer Bonuses like this often? Just curious if this is any better or worse than other Sign-Up Bonuses they may have offered.

edcedc

Not available to current Fidelity account holders?

dealspossible

Yeah according to the terms its for new accounts only

"Fidelity customers who currently have an existing brokerage or cash management account are not eligible for this offer."

DMHinCO

I am a huge fan of fidelity. I opened my first account in 1987. I have recommended that my kids have their primary checking account with Fidelity once they turn 18. There are no fees and the experience is always positive. However, you cannot do any cash transactions other than getting cash from an ATM. I do not believe there is any way to deposit cash so it is a bad account if you are a waiter.

XBeatzX

Whoever the Mod was that re-did the title, it's "Fidelity" not "Fiedelity".

ketamine

If so, you shouldn't recommend it as a primary checking account.

pickmyname

I connected my bank account and attempted to do a transfer but it's not letting me. Anyone else getting that? Wondering if I need to call their customer service, or if I just need to wait for the bank info addition to be processed or something.

stubbornboy

hard credit pull?

Also any idea if this is a targeted offer?

dealspossible

I had the problem at first also. All you need to do is log back into the account and it will bring you to your account overview which allows you to add a bank account to transfer from.

DMHinCO

Shrug. I just don't recommend cash. Or being a waiter.

"P.S. If you’re looking for our recent Amazon.com offer, it expired on 10/18. Our two accounts are still great options for spending and investing."

East Coast Time or what?

TurboTax Premier free for some Fidelity customers (Premium Services, Active Traders, Private Client), YMMV (2018 tax year thread)

+51 35336 Views 63 Comments

It's back! Select Fidelity customers are eligible to receive a free copy of TurboTax Premier. As best I can figure from posts last year, it seems to be Premium Services (>$250k) customers who are also Active Traders (see https://www.fidelity.com for a chart) or Private Client Group customers (> $1m in assets at Fidelity), but not everyone seems to get it. To see if you have the offer, login to your account and go to the Summary page if it's not your default (Accounts & Trade -> Portfolio). If you are eligible, you will see a box titled "Get TurboTax® Online Premier free" on the right side towards the bottom of the page with a link to go to the TurboTax site to "purchase" (see the attached image to see what it looks like).

You can either use the online version, or click on Products & Services -> CD/Download Products at the top of the screen and you can get the downloadable version of Premier for free. You can get Windows or Mac, or both (just go in a second time or continue shopping after adding one version to your cart). If you need Home & Business, there is no discount online but once you install Premier, you can upgrade for only $10.

If you get an error after clicking on the link, try again and it should work.

If you need TT Home & Business, you can upgrade for $10 after installing Premier (Help -> Upgrade TurboTax).

With the downloaded version, one state is included but e-file is not free unless you're in NY, where it is free by law. It appears that if you use the online version, the charge for state returns includes e-filing, and that charge is $0.00 with this offer.

If you don't qualify for the free copy, there is a $20 off offer, but you can do better elsewhere.

If you are a good Fidelity customer and do not have the free offer, some people have reported contacting their rep and being given an account credit after buying it on their own. YMMV on that.

Here's the $20 off affliate link from Fidelity. https://turbotax.intuit.com/microsite/home.htm?priorityCode=3468338103 Changing the last digit a few times still yeads $20 off.

I *do* need Premier ... where can I do better?

seth-p

While the Fidelity link says it's only for the online version, it seems to be for the download version as well.

MisterBill

From my post:

"You can either use the online version, or click on Products & Services -> CD/Download Products at the top of the screen and you can get the downloadable version of Premier for free."

I separated it into its own paragraph so it was easier to find.

MisterBill

Wait for the Costco sale to start in a week or two, then Amazon and Staples will presumably match it.

$20 off is not a deal.

Lakee911

Okay. Waiting... Thx

Funboy3

Dang. I already bought TT Premier. Is there anyway to get this free copy to get another state into my paid copy of turbo tax?

Or do I finish my Federal Taxes and state 1 taxes. Erase TT and download this free copy?

duhmel

Go to Amazon. Premier is the same price as for the Fidelity 'deal' but on Amazon you get the state forms at this price.

pakle

Our household has 2 Fidelity accounts. One is Premium services, other is not. The one that is not Premium Services got the free Turbotax Premier offer, the Premium account shows nothing for TT. For past few years, the Premium account would show the offer. We get one combined statement for the household so maybe they're randomly selecting one acct to show the offer this year. If you think you should qualify, e.g. Premium service or Active Trader, try logging into the other accounts in the household to see if you have the offer.

practicalme

Costco's Turbo Tax sale starts on 1/2/19.

hkam

I guess I'm not rich enough to earn the free software. Thanks anyway for posting.

Mike0Ryan

Apparently my "Premier Services" are not premier enough! :mad2:

utan87

Same. Really odd, I was eligible last year but not this year.

framework4me

With 25k assets and you also need 120 trades to get free premier.
if you have free trades then you can use that to buy any penny stock also to qualify this.

AMD, INFY, CY are some stocks which you can consider if you dont want penny stocks

MisterBill

Historically, that price has been available online a few days earlier than that.

MisterBill

25k gets you nothing. I'm getting the 120 trades makes you an active trader?
